I jut got word that over 630,000 cribs are being recalled by Dorel-Asia. Apparantly the drop side hardware can fail causing the drop side to detach from the crib. When the drop side detaches it creates a space in which an infant or toddler can beonlinee entrapped and suffocate or strangle.

The cribs that are part of this recall were sold at K-Mart, Walmart and Sears stores nationwide from January 2005 to December 2009. You can go on over here to see the Press Release and the model numbers and pictures of the cribs included in this recall.

If your crib is in fact part of the recall, then you should immediately stop using the crib, find an alternative safe sleeping environment for your child, and contact Dorel Asia to receive a free replacement kit. Consumers should log on to www.dorel-asia.online or call the Dorel Asia toll-free at (866) 762-2304 between 8 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. ET Monday through Friday to order the free replacement kit to prevent child entrapment in these cribs. The repair kits will be provided to owners within the next several weeks.

NEW UPDATE: There is also a huge recall on Graco Strollers! You can check out the Press Release here.

(Thanks for letting me know about these, KCPennyPinchin’Mama & PNWFrugalFind!)

Thanks, I have one of these cribs. I’m actually not using it as a crib right now (it’s a 3-in-1), but I’m definitely getting the repair kit in case I need it later on.

We really appreciate you posting important information like this on here , Thanks Collin

I love the drop side to get the child in and out (expecially when sleeping). someone told me that they are going to stop making them have side(s) drop down. Has anyone else heard this? We all reuse them so often (yes, my sons is one of his step cousins so I will have to ask my step mom the story behind it) they are so so expensive and we loved them for the first child we just want to keep using them.

I’ve heard rumors that the drop side cribs are not going to be made after too much longer. Who knows? Luckily I am a bit taller so I don’t mind having to lean over the rails.

Thanks! I have two of those white cribs in the picture…guess I better call for the kit 🙂
Also, can’t believe all of that lemon drama! Who would’ve thought?!

  8. Collin (Mrs. Hip)

I would have never known this without you posting it on your site. Thanks for the heads up. My son sleeps in one of the recalled cribs. I actually bought this one to replace another crib we bought that got recalled!

After last night, not using the crib, I need one now, not fixed in 2 or more weeks! I can’t afford a new one. Will the store take it back as a return to get my money back?

Thanks, I believe my grandson is in one of these cribs. Forwarded the info on to my son and his wife. I agree that it is really not possible to not use the crib until the kit onlinees. It seems that Graco always has a recall going for something

I have one of those lovely recalled cribs, but my dropside already broke, just recently. Luckily I was in the room with my son when it happened and was able to catch it right away and remove him from it. The process to get the new parts is a pain in the arse and almost not worth it. Who is to say that the new piece won’t be defective?? No one knows for sure. I would love to just buy a new crib, but I am a single mother and it’s def not in my budget. For now a pack and play will have to do, but in the mean time, we’re both losing sleep because of it.
