T-Mobile Shifting Older Customers to New Plans – Find Out If You’re Affected!
Warning: T-mobile is forcing older users onto new plans. Here’s what you need to know!
T-Mobile is forcing some users to change their phone plans. 📱
The popular phone carrier, T-Mobile, just confirmed some unfortunate news to CNET. Starting in November, users on older unlimited plans will be forced onto one of T-mobile’s newer and enhanced phone plans.
This will result in a monthly price increase for those customers.
onlinee October 17, notices will be sent to customers on the One, Simple Choice, Magenta, and Magenta 55 Plus plans to alert them of the change. If you’re currently locked into one of these plans, be on the lookout for the onlinemunication.
According to rumors on Reddit, the plans will switch as follows:
- Magenta -> Go5G
- One -> Go5G
- Magenta 55+ -> Go5G 55+
- Simple Choice / Select Choice -> Magenta or Essentials Select
- Simple Choice Business -> Business Unlimited Advanced
How much is the price increase and can you stay on the older plan? 💰
T-Mobile told CNET that the price increase is roughly $10 per line. Luckily, if you are going to be impacted by this change, you have options.
If you wish to stay on the older plan for now, you can, but you must personally call T-Mobile’s Customer Care Line to place the request. Whether or not you will be able to keep your older plan permanently, is currently unknown.
Should you choose to move to the newer plan at this time, you can save $5 per line by setting up automatic payments using your bank account information. However, CNET warns users that T-Mobile has faced security breaches in the past so choose which information you provide them carefully.
Why is T-Mobile choosing to do this now?
In 2020, T-Mobile merged with Sprint and part of their agreement was that rates wouldn’t increase for at least 3 years. It seems the three years are up and T-Mobile is pushing ahead with pressuring customers to move to new plans.
Some customers on these older plans, especially those on fixed inonlinees, are sure to be disappointed that T-Mobile decided to administer the switch so fast after the agreement expired. 😩
However, it’s worth noting that T-Mobile does now have a “Price Lock” for plans activated after April 28, 2022. 🔒 Do you intend to switch to a newer plan? If so, ask within 60 days if your rate is now covered by this new policy.
