recalled Proctor & Gamble products

Have you bought any of these dry shampoos?

Proctor & Gamble has voluntarily recalled more than 30 dry shampoo & conditioner products–including those from Aussie, Pantene, Waterless, and Herbal Essences–because of the risk of benzene exposure.

Benzene is a cancer-causing chemical that can cause potentially life-threatening blood disorders when absorbed in large amounts via the skin or when inhaled.

Luckily, as reported by Proctor & Gamble:

“Based on exposure modeling and the cancer risk assessments published by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) (IRIS database), daily exposure to benzene in the recalled products at the levels detected in our testing would not be expected to cause adverse health consequences.”

As of yet, Proctor & Gamble hasn’t received any reports of adverse health effects due to the recall, and they’re removing the products from the shelf due to “an abundance of caution.”

Proctor & Gamble is urging consumers to stop using the recalled items immediately & seek a refund. To see the full list of affected products & directions on how to receive a reimbursement, visit the recall page on FDA.gov. Any questions can be directed to the Consumer Care team at 1-888-674-3631 from Monday-Friday, 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. EST.

If you’ve experienced quality issues or adverse effects due to the recalled products, you can report them to the FDA’s MedWatch Adverse Event Reporting program online, via fax or mail, or by calling 1- 800-332-1088 to request a reporting form.

I’ve always wondered about the safety of dry shampoos in general. I started using them about 3-4 years ago and though I do love them, they really can’t be good for you…breathing that in.

Spray sunscreens not good for you or kids either.

Just an fyi that almost all aerosol hair sprays, dry shampoos, etc. have formaldehyde and all kinds of cancer causing stuff in them. Stick to non-aerosol whenever possible.

I have a great at home natural dry shampoo recipe using coco powder arrow root and natural essential oils…. if you type those keywords in on Pinterest it should onlinee up, it’s the only dry shampoo I’ll use now. Smells great, it’s very inexpensive to make and no chemical risks. You just rub a small amount into your palms and then rub into scalp and brush out.

      Thank you for the tip!

Yes! I make mine with equal parts corn starch, cocoa, and cinnamon. Store it in a jar, then apply it in sections with a makeup brush.

Vanicream is an allergy friendly product, all around. My daughter’s dad had an allergy to every type of sunscreen he tried until I discovered Vanicream. I’m not sure if they’re going to be making sunscreen any more, though, so if you do find it, stock up. They make all kinds of allergen-friendly products (lotion, soap, body wash, face lotion, etc.).
