More Than 30 Popular Dry Shampoos & Conditioners Recalled Due to Carcinogen Concern
Have you bought any of these dry shampoos?
Proctor & Gamble has voluntarily recalled more than 30 dry shampoo & conditioner products–including those from Aussie, Pantene, Waterless, and Herbal Essences–because of the risk of benzene exposure.
Benzene is a cancer-causing chemical that can cause potentially life-threatening blood disorders when absorbed in large amounts via the skin or when inhaled.
Luckily, as reported by Proctor & Gamble:
“Based on exposure modeling and the cancer risk assessments published by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) (IRIS database), daily exposure to benzene in the recalled products at the levels detected in our testing would not be expected to cause adverse health consequences.”
As of yet, Proctor & Gamble hasn’t received any reports of adverse health effects due to the recall, and they’re removing the products from the shelf due to “an abundance of caution.”
Proctor & Gamble is urging consumers to stop using the recalled items immediately & seek a refund. To see the full list of affected products & directions on how to receive a reimbursement, visit the recall page on FDA.gov. Any questions can be directed to the Consumer Care team at 1-888-674-3631 from Monday-Friday, 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. EST.
If you’ve experienced quality issues or adverse effects due to the recalled products, you can report them to the FDA’s MedWatch Adverse Event Reporting program online, via fax or mail, or by calling 1- 800-332-1088 to request a reporting form.
