Amazon Prime Members Can Now Send Gifts w/ Only a Phone Number or Email Address!
No address? No problem for Amazon Prime members!
Amazon is introducing a new gifting option that lets Prime members send gifts even if they don’t know the recipient’s address.
If you want to send someone a present and you know either their email address or their mobile number, you can now use your Prime membership and your mobile phone to send a gift to anyone in the continental U.S.!
Just choose a gift from millions of eligible items on your Amazon mobile app, select the “add gift receipt for easy returns” option during check-out, and you’ll see an option to “let the recipient provide their address.” Then, you’ll only need to add the recipient’s email address or mobile number.
Amazon has built-in safeguards to ensure that the gift-giver never gets access to the recipient’s mailing address.
Within minutes, your recipient will receive a notification (via the contact information you provided) with your gift and personalized message. If they don’t already have an Amazon account, they can create one at this point. The recipient does have to have an Amazon account to claim the gift, but only the gift-giver needs to be a member of Amazon Prime.
When they open the notification, your recipient can see what you sent them. At this point, they can decide whether to accept it, decline it, or exchange it for an Amazon gift card. In this case, you will not be notified that your recipient chose the gift card option.
Your credit card won’t be charged until the recipient accepts the gift (or gift card option). If they take no action or ignore their gift notification, it expires within a few days and your credit card will not be charged.
Right now, this method can only be used to send gifts throughout the continental US, and it can only be accessed via Amazon’s mobile shopping app.
What do you think? Will you be using this option to send someone a gift this holiday season?
