Check Out How This Reader Upcycles Old Team Gear into Beautiful Tote Bags
Fan of sports teams know how pricy team-gear can get. Buying jackets, tees, shorts, and more for your kids school teams can add up quickly! Plus once they wear holes in them or outgrow them, it’s usually time to toss them.
Hip2Save reader Michelle came up with a genius solution to upcycle those old jerseys into sports-themed tote bags! This awesome tip not only repurposes your old clothes, but you’ll also end up with a one-of-a-kind piece to show off your team spirit!
Check out how she turned jerseys into a thoughtful gift for her coaches…
I made tote bags out of old jerseys that were going to be thrown away. The coaches loved them.
I had to make my own pattern. I cut squares 18.5” x 18.5” from the jersey and ironed on craft fusible interfacing to make the fabric a little stiffer. Then I sewed them together at the bottom. I cut out lining material and sewed a little pocket inside from the sleeves of jersey. I purchased webbed strapping from Amazon for the handles.
Stitched everything together to make an adorable and useful tote bag for coaches!
