Check with your local planning and zoning offices to make sure you can actually have/build one of these before you order it.

    • juma

As well as your HOA. We just laid a foundation for a customer who was having a shed built and it was a nightmare. I explained to him that he needed a permit drawings site plans before he could install the shed, but height restrictions were a big issue to. In the end I actually took on that project for him and got the builder to redesign building and I got it approved and installed. Headaches that could have been prevented had he just listened to me and/or taken the time to contact his local county planning department.

      • Linda Ferraro

If I put concretvubder a shed u need a permit if not on concrete u dont need a permit

        • Emily

Your mileage may vary with this depending on your jurisdiction. Some go by square footage; some by foundation; some by connected utilities.

Check with your local permitting authority to be safe.

    • Mark Castle

Best way to do 1 of these is to build it on a trailer frame with wheels because #1 u wont need a building permit because not considered a permanent structure and #2 u could then use it for camping trips, i love them

      • jennonthego

Great idea, and you could try out tiny home life and just sell it if you don’t like it or circumstances change.

    • Wfgedlin

      Haha what a great question

  3. shop4mybabies

these are great. my son (turns 27 today) just moved home for the third time. rather that uproot bedrooms for 3 siblings who have been smart enough not to leave until they can afford to we had an 8×12 costco shed insulated sheet rocked and painted. bigger than his sisters room. he has privacy and doesnโ€™t disturb us. iโ€™d love to have a functional tiny home built so the kids always have a place to visit or fall back on

    • quinntress

Thatโ€™s exactly what I thought. If my kids needed to onlinee home after college, then this would work great. + I love ur name bc I use shop4dafam as an email for all my shopping needs ๐Ÿคฃ๐Ÿ–๐Ÿฝ

    • riss

When my son was in 5th grade, that’s what he asked me for his grad present. I told him it would be hot coz it’s not insulated and there’s no bathroom, plus there may be bugs. He changed his mind after i said bugs ๐Ÿคฃ๐Ÿ˜‚

    • LEH50

      What about a bathroom?

      • shop4mybabies

we do allow him to onlinee in the house lol

    • Cathy

Are you talking about the plastic storage shed?? You can insulate and use it as a regular bedroom?? I need that so bad. I am sharing a small room with my 7 ry old GD and I need my own space!!

  4. SaverChick

I’ve wanted one of these little houses since the first time H2S posted one. I would put it in my backyard and use it as an office/she-shed. Super cute!

    • SaverChick

Me too! I’ve wanted a she shed since I saw the show on TV years ago. Those things are adorable!

    • Kristy

I want one to make it a year around Christmas room. So far its a no from hubby. =(

  5. Jess

My dream is to build one of these for my disabled son. I like the idea of giving and teaching him independence but having him close enough to protect and enjoy his onlinepany.

    • mckeeversmom

What a wonderful idea, Jess! I hope your wish can onlinee true.

    • Gscribble

      Thatโ€™s wonderful!

    • J.H.509

Yes. I was thinking the exact same thing for our daughter. In very optimistic but also realistic. She will never be able to live on her own but this would definitely give her a sense of independence but with us very close by.

    • quinntress

What a wonderful idea! I hope you find a solution that works for u & ur family.

    • peretz12

Iโ€™ve been dreaming of doing this for my younger brother who has Downs Syndrome. Itโ€™ll probably end up having to happen some day once my parents are unable to care for him.

    • Jodi P

I hope you’re able to do that! My sister wants one for her 21 year old son, who has Aspergers. He does have a small job in a bakery, doing dishes and cleaning up, but he’ll never be able to live on his own. And he could really be taken advantage of by any roommates, friends, etc. Having his own tiny house in the backyard would let him feel more like an adult. And I know my sister would like the peace and quiet, lol

    • Meg

Jess our neighbor did that for his daughter. She couldn’t live by herself. It had a window unit and all. That way they could keep and eye on her. Plus I think they loved the quiet time. It worked great she loved it.

  6. eadybakegirl

When we were looking at houses to purchase our realtor would call them mother In law dens. He said many people had them for their elderly parents that want privacy but need assistance. Itโ€™s a great option as a starter place for a couple to save money for future home purchase or pay off student debt faster.

  7. pam

    is there a bathroom?

    • Elaine

      No

  8. tina

Is the town allow to put in the backyard?

    • shelleybeaches

Most towns let you, but some don’t. You can ask your town’s Planning office.

  9. Elizabeth M.

I would totally buy one if I had the funds. Hello Sheshed!

    • quinntress

      Awesome ๐Ÿ™‚

  10. Alese

Has anyone seen one like this that includes a restroom? Iโ€™d love to have one but needs to have at least space for a toilet and sink ๐Ÿ™‚

  11. sona

Amazon has nothing on Sears (Sears, Roebuck and Co). They sold houses in their catalog in the 30s/40s.

Yes. If anyone does the Route 66 tour stop in Carlinville, IL to see a large number of the houses.

  12. Amber

I watch a YouTuber who is the oldest of 10 siblings. Her parents built something like this on their property so when the kids turned 17 they could move out there. They’d begin to have the responsibility and privacy of living on their own but were still close to the parents if needed. I always thought that it was a cool idea as a way to transition into adulthood.

  13. pokz

Can u ship this to someones backyard and i will build it and live there?

  14. Rn404

This would be cool if it had a full bathroom of some sort in there

    • pokz

      Portajohnny

    • mamasweetpea

some of the models do have a bathroom area in the floorplan… but of course, you’d have to make sure to have all the plumbing set up just like you would the electrical. it’s pretty cool though

  15. Tinac168

Wouldnโ€™t a camper in the driveway be simpler? ๐Ÿคฃ

    • Jamie

And you could easily hook up to the water and electric in the house, and wouldn’t need a permit.

      • Rae

I think the camper idea is better plus if you wanted to get rid of it later you could just sell it.

      • MJ

        Not legal in some areas

  16. SavingsMama

These are really cool. This seems like an idea for maybe an adult child moving in to help w their parents and they want a little privacy, but close by to assist. Or a she-shed…yes…. The price point is high, considering there are no bathrooms in them. Even an RV style thing…may be more economical to go the shed route as some mentioned or put a small camper out there…hey, weather permitting there has been some sweet tent sales on H2S :p

  17. ROSALIE PANZO

This would make an awesome she shed/craft room!

    • Cherryluva

Yes!!!! My dream, a craft shed!!

  18. Lora

We would have to pay taxes on it, so a no for us. We also require permits. You have to have a concrete pad or gravel for it based on building codes and that could increase the costs.

  19. Rita

You know what? The hubby, kids and the dog can have the house I’ll be the one to move into this…please and thank you very much.

  20. nita

Wow this seems like a great idea. Low upkeep, privacy when you want it and no monthly payments! ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘

    • kate-1

If u have 20K+ instalation cost. If not you will be making payments @ a heafty interest rate too!

  21. Dee

Is there one that onlinees with a security gate and lock system? Because I worry the kids, pets and husband would follow me inside.

    • nita

Lol ๐Ÿ˜† same thought here. ๐Ÿ™‚

  22. NikkiLLM5

These are very cute but at that price point I live in the country and we donโ€™t have any building restrictions so I think Iโ€™d have to go with a good used mobile home that has a full kitchen, 2 to 4 bedrooms, and 1 to 2 bathrooms. Around here a lot of young couples will buy new mobile homes as starter homes then when they can afford to they purchase a home. You can find a lot of good used mobile homes at a fraction of the original cost. But if you live in town this probably wonโ€™t work for you. These are aesthetically more pleasing to the eye.
