This reader has some smart tips for stocking up on kids’ clothing.

Let’s face it, raising children can be expensive. They seem to grow out of their clothing faster than you can blink! Luckily, this week’s Happy Friday reader, Abby, has some clever tips on how you can save. When she sees a hot sale, she takes advantage of it – even if her kids aren’t quite ready to wear the clothing yet. She found a smart way to organize her shopping hauls and you can do it too! 🛍️🧠 Here’s how!

“To score good deals on kids clothes and shoes, I like to buy ahead when I see larger sizes on clearance or at garage sales.”

Woman looking at a spreadsheet on her telephone

“I track what items I have and still need on a Google docs spreadsheet (one for my boy, the other for my girls) with columns by size and a listing of each type of item and quantity underneath. So at a quick glance I know we need more winter outfits or need soccer cleats in the next size or have plenty of shorts. Using my cell phone, I can easily review when I’m shopping and update once I purchase items to fill in the gaps.”

We LOVE this helpful tip, Abby! If you don’t use something right away, it can be so easy to forget about it. When you have a bunch of storage bins, it’s important to know what is inside each of them.

Keeping a spreadsheet is a smart way to stay organized and make the most out of those hot deals and savings! Thank you so much for sharing your spreadsheet idea with us! We can’t wait to start one of our own! 🙌

When my grand kids were small (they lived with me) I used to have boxes in the bottom of their closet with larger size clothes (I got them on freecycle, thrift stores, and clearance racks in stores) and one box that was for donations, sewing stained etc.. as they out grew the clothes. As they got older I even taught them to put clothes that didn’t fit or were stained, or needed sewing into the box themselves. Before donating I would go through the clothes and decide what to do with them of course. It worked for us.

SO smart. I did the same thing with my kids when they were little. Thanks for sharing how it worked with your grandkids! SO awesome! ๐Ÿ™Œ๐Ÿ’ž๐Ÿค—

I do this with all three of my kids. I shop clearance, thrift stores and I actually have a gf who owns a consignment shop for children and women clothing. I actually love consignment. It helps tremendously.
