This Reader Made Her Own Elderberry Syrup & Saved Over $120!
Looking for a wellness tip?
In the midst of flu season, we’re looking for as many helpful remedies as possible to avoid getting sick before the holidays! Luckily, this week’s Happy Friday reader Brenda is sharing how she reaps the benefits of elderberry syrup without splurging.
Two Christmas’ ago, my sister sent me a large mason jar of elderberry syrup. She had heard and read about all the benefits of elderberry and thought it would be good for me to take, too. The jar cost over $50, but it did last 2 months, and I never got as much as a cold.
I didn’t like the idea of paying so much for another jar, so I searched and found a recipe to make my own…
For the price of a 1lb bag of organic dried elderberry on Amazon ($20-25), a jar of organic ginger powder, organic clove powder, and ground cinnamon ($1.99 each on Lidl – with enough for about three bags of elderberries) and honey (large bottle for $9.99), I make 3 large jars of elderberry syrup (one jar at a time when needed), saving over $120 onlinepared to 3 jars purchased. If you have never used elderberry, I highly reonlinemend it.
Since I started taking it 2 years ago, I hardly ever get sick. Also, my 10-year-old son came home from school one day, unable to stop sniffling from a constant runny nose. I gave him a teaspoon (tablespoon for adults), and, by the following day, there were no more sniffles or snots!!
What a clever way to feel good and save money, Brenda! I will definitely be trying this myself. We have posted deals in the past for saving money on various Elderberry products, so make sure you keep your eyes peeled if you do plan on purchasing!
