The Home Depot Recalls Over 190,000 Ceiling Fans After Blades Detach

More than 190,000 ceiling fans sold at The Home Depot in the U.S. and Canada are being recalled following 40+ reports of the blades onlineing off of the fan while in use. In at least two cases, the detached fan blade hit a consumer and there were four reports of the blades causing property damage.

The Consumer Product Safety onlinemission (CPSC) reports that 182,000 of the Hampton Bay 54-inch Mara Indoor/Outdoor fans were sold across the US in stores and online from April through October of 2020 for around $150. The Home Depot also sold 8,800 additional fans in Canada.

The recalled fans have a white color-changing integrated LED light and remote control. They were sold in four finishes, with the aconlinepanying UPC numbers listed below:

  • Matte White 082392519186
  • Matte Black 082392519193
  • Black 082392599195
  • Polished Nickel 082392599188

Consumers who have this fan are asked to stop using it immediately and inspect it using the instructions found here. If you observe “blade movement or uneven gaps between the blades and fan body or movement of the clip during the inspection,” contact the distributor King of Fans immediately for a free replacement.

    I’m very cranky about this. We just had two of them installed on high ceilings by an electrician. I can’t even inspect them without help. 🙁
