Limes, Lemons, Oranges & Potatoes Are Recalled Due to Listeria Found on Packing Equipment

Freshouse II LLC has announced a voluntary recall of lemons, limes, oranges, and red potatoes due to potential listeria contamination.

Listeria monocytogenes were found on a piece of equipment at one of its packing facilities during routine internal testing according to their statement to the FDA. They immediately ceased production and distribution of all products that were packed on the equipment in question and are taking corrective actions and continually evaluating their cleaning and sanitation regimes.

Listeria monocytogenes are an organism that can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems. No illnesses have been associated with this recall to date.

Check the brand label, UPC & Trace #’s to see if you have any of the recalled products. Note that the Trace # is printed on the tag or clip on the bag. You can see pictures here.

Limes branded by Freshouse UPC: 33383 & 14683/Trace #174618, 174570, 174571, 174572 in 2lb mesh bags

Organic Limes by Natures Promise UPC: 88267 & 53813/Trace # 174375 in 1lb mesh bags

Red Potatoes by Fresh from the Start UPC: 33383 51003 Trace#: 174575, 174403, 174595 in 3lb mesh bags

Lemons by Fresh from the Start UPC: 33383 & 14020 Trace# 174551, 174552 in 2lb mesh bags

Lemons by Wegmans UPC: 77890 & 15917 in 2lb mesh bags

Valencia Oranges by Wegmans UPC: 77890 & 52363 in 4lb mesh bags

If you have any of the recalled items, you should not consume it and should destroy the product in a way so that it may not be consumed by others or return it to the place of purchase for a refund. Onion recall was limited to certain growers. I checked and my onions came from NewYork which was ok. Do your research.

Kader Exports is recalling certain frozen cooked, peeled and deveined shrimp sold in 1lb, 1.5lb, and 2lb bags distributed from late February 2020 to Mid-May 2020. Shrimp products affected are Aqua Star Reserve, Censea, Fresh Market, Kirkland, Tops, Unistar, and Wellsley Farms. Search “shrimp recall”. I found info on the Newsweek website.

Part of the problem for us is that we get loose onions, potatoes, and limes in our local food distribution boxes. They aren’t labeled or bagged, so we never know if they are safe.

Yes a whole bunch of loose produce was just passed around to schools and at our church distribution. All I know is the Wegmans brand they had, but most was loose and “rescued”. I never even heard about this recall! Thanks so much H2S team for being our eyes & ears💞

Sigh… My mother used to do that (and we lived in the ‘burbs, not a farm). I didn’t really know you COULD buy vegetables and fruit in a can til I was college-aged 🙂

Anyone can grow their own food, even if you live in apartment!
Better start, the price of food is rising fast!
As much money as we pay, they should be doing a better job!

FYI from their site (I was trying to see if this affected Costco in PNW): The recalled products were shipped directly to retailer distribution centers in North Carolina, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, and Virginia and to wholesalers in Maryland and North Carolina.

So… onions, potatoes, and citrus fruit are out and it seems like bagged lettuce/spinach is frequently on the contaminated list too.
I think I’m going to avoid the produce aisle in favor of ice cream, dark chocolate and bourbon – seems safer 🙂 😉
