Walmart Hiring 150,000 NEW Hourly Employees (24-Hour Application Process)

Looking for work? Walmart is hiring!

In addition to Amazon hiring new employees due to Coronavirus, Walmart is also planning to hire over 150,000 hourly associates in the U.S. through the end of May. These new employees will work in stores, clubs, distribution centers, and fulfillment centers. The roles will be temporary at first, but may convert to permanent roles over time.

Walmart is also dramatically expediting the hiring process for key roles, such as cashiers and stockers. What is usually a 2-week application cycle will be reduced to a 24-hour process!

Doug McMillon, President and CEO of Walmart, said –

“We know millions of Americans who are usually employed at this time are temporarily out of work, and at the same time we’re currently seeing strong demand in our stores. We’re looking for people who see Walmart as a chance to earn some extra money and perform a vital service to their onlinemunity.”

Walmart promotes more than 517 people every single day, and 38% of promotions go to first-year associates! Plus, associates that onlineplete their training program will have an opportunity to boost their paycheck.

Starting rates will be at least $11 per hour, and could be higher depending on location, grade level, and experience.

Had to go to WM yesterday to pick up an RX and was shocked at how crowded it was. I got the need to get supplies, but a lot of people were just casually walking around. Seems to me like a good/bad place to catch the virus.

That’s exactly what I’ve been thinking about. My husband went to ours last week and was telling me about all the different plates from surrounding counties were in the parking lot once he went inside the store was as packed the shelves were starting to look bare at that time. Seems to me shopping in a packed Walmart would be the last place I would want to be. Anyone else have any thoughts on this subject?

I do the pick up in store. I let them shop for me and I just pick it up when it’s ready.

I raced into my local WM for the first time in almost two weeks, and it was shockingly packed. I had my mask and gloves, and I was in/out as fast as I could, but so many people are not listening and just roaming around like nothing is amiss. Its unsettling. Meanwhile I am literally stuck inside 24/7 on the advise of health officials (we are not sick/exposed but Im trying to stay that way).

many people lost their jobs because their businesses closed due to the shelter in place order given so that wed practice social distancing. Now these people are being courted to work at places where social distancing is impossible these days? Makes no sense

I had the same thoughts when considering working in the Amazon wearhouse, as far as this going against what has been advised. Our Walmart had several people casually shopping around as well(I had trusted face mask!), and some either had seasonal allergies or were flat out sick. I have chronic health conditions that put me at increased risk so right now I have decided to not go this route. If anyone is able to extend a digital gift card of any small value and I mean $3 is ok it would be greatly appreciated. I am a single parent with a 5th grader. [email protected]
