    Recalls are out of control

agreed. a child could pull down anything and hurt themselves. are we supposed to bolt everything to the floor?

      • Valerie0408

Parents need to be more aware and present when kids are at certain ages known to pull things down or take preventive measures to things that can seriously hurt them.

IKEA had this same problem with the MALM dressers that have been under recall for years. How they let the same dangerous design flaw to continue with an other model of dresser is beyond negligent on their part.

There are no other brands of dressers that have been recalled because children have beonlinee trapped or killed.

Were you able to follow your young kids around the house all day? Four to ten years old…..you were with them constantly?

Been buying IKEA stuff for years – I thought all of the bookshelves and dressers came with wall anchors? Also, don’t understand your claim about other brands never being recalled, a simple Google or CPSC search shows otherwise, but I don’t know why that’s important anyway unless you have a weird vendetta against IKEA. Lastly, all of the dressers in my house are top heavy – isn’t that the nature of the beast since dressers are a largely hollow piece of furniture with a large plank on the top?

      • ohjodi

The IKEA dressers recalls…..this on the heels of the Ikea MALM dresser recalls because of deaths, are because the IKEA designs are unusually lightweight at the bases, allowing them to tip over very easily when a drawer is open, especially if a child pulls on the drawer.

Other furniture brands have not had this problem, which is why it’s especially dangerous…..people do not expect to have to bolt a dresser to the wall.

Anyone know if the 6 drawer dressers have also been recalled? It’s basically two of the three drawer chests onlinebined. We have the three drawer and also the six drawer. Thanks!

    • Jennifer

      They haven’t.

BUY AMISH FURNITURE!!! Can’t say this enough!!! You get to customize EVERYTHING about your furniture from the wood used to the stain applied to the hardware. Incredibly heavy so not at all likely a child could tip over. Beautiful and lasts a lifetime! I get that not everyone has the money for it, but if you do, it’s definitely worth it.

Just use the wall anchors they provide!

Is it too late to apply for Malm four drawer recall. How to do that.?

  6. Sara Thompson

Victim blaming is disgusting. People’s children DIED.

IKEA openly admitted to their dressers NOT adhering to the industry safety standard. They have to keep reannouncing this recall because less than 3% were returned or received the wall mount and children keep dying. Recalls are ineffective because they correct information does not reach the public and ignorant people spread misinformation which leads to more deaths. The CPSC acknowledges that recalls have a serious flaw in their effectiveness.
