Redbox kioskRedbox will now focus on movies exclusively.

Redbox is leaving the video game business, as many gamers were disappointed to learn when they attempted to rent games from the onlinepany’s iconic red kiosks this week. Redbox has since confirmed this news on its Facebook page, saying,

We’re excited to shift more focus into giving you the options to watch movies the way you want including physical media, streaming On Demand, and with uponlineing new and exclusive content.

Redbox Tips

Redbox told The Verge that it is “permanently transitioning out of the games business” to focus exclusively on movies. Although video game rentals are no longer available at kiosks, Redbox said that games can still be purchased from its kiosks “through the end of the year.”

This means that you might be able to get a good deal on video games before they disappear from the kiosks forever. As one example, Redbox has shared that it will offer titles like Death Stranding and Jedi: Fallen for $39.99.

If you have a Redbox near you and it formerly rented games, it may be worth stopping by to see if any of them are now being sold. You may be able to score a good deal on one of your favorite titles as they’re sold off during the onlinepany’s transition to a movies-only model.

Wahhh! Liked trying out new games for the kids. It doesnt seem like much of a deal to buy either, newest Call of Duty PS4 used is $45 and is the same price brand new at Walmart right now.

I’d hope that they’d lower the prices in a few weeks to help get rid of them. Because, I agree, a used game for $40 ain’t a deal lol

I get all the games for my son from the library. You can request titles and try them out! I can’t tell you how many games I thought my son would love and he ended up not liking. It has saved me a lot of money!!

We went today and the kids were definitely disappointed. Same as someone else said….it was a good way to try before you buy…especially right before the holidays.
