Halloween is only 97… or possibly just 92 days away!

The Halloween & Costume Association recently launched a petition to change the day of Halloween to the last Saturday of October every year versus keeping the holiday on October 31st. At the time of this post, the petition already has 77,000+ signatures and counting!

The petition was created as part of an effort to promote a “safer, longer, and more stress-free celebration” of Halloween! A Saturday would allow for longer Trick-or Treat times for your little ghosts and goblins and would guarantee that all Halloween parties were celebrated on the weekend.

The majority of the reasons listed on the petition for the change revolve around safety. But, it also stands to reason that kid’s bed times and parent’s work schedules are huge contributing factors as well. If the change actually goes into effect, Halloween would be held on October 26th this year.

Will you be signing the petition or should Halloween stay put on October 31st?

This goes to show how much America has watered down sacred traditions. Do some research and take time to fully appreciate All Hallows’ Eve/All Saints Day and you will understand why the date should not and cannot be changed just for a matter of convenience to our modern lifestyles.

    • tipaye

      Agreed

  2. Catherine S

    Absolutely not!

  3. Soccer Mom

Our town has Trick or Treat the Sunday before from 2pm -4pm. Then on Monday the kids have a 2 hour delay for Teacher in Service day.

  4. Marie

What is it with everyone trying to rewrite or erase history these days to suit their own agendas? I don’t believe for one minute that the true reason for this petition is safety, it’s sales. Celebrate when you want, but 🎃 Halloween is October 31st and it always will be. 👻

PS – Christmas is in December, not July! Retailers would like Christmas to be everyday 🤣

  5. Vera

Leave Halloween on the 31st. Where I live trick or treating is only 2hrs from 6 to 8. Kids are doing activities all the time that are later than that during the week. Plus lots of parents work on the weekend not just during the week.

  6. Jennifer B

How did we ever survive in the past?? And that was back with no trick r treating curfews. I do NOT want to see it change.

  7. Luna

    Totally yes!!

  8. abigail

I vote NO! And yes I have young kids.

  9. sissi

I say no as a service industry worker. Halloween on a Saturday would essentially mean I’d never be able to participate with my little ones. At least now i have a chance.

  10. sissi

Also, i cant request that day off, holidays are all off limits for requesting off.

  11. A

Um, no thanks 🙄😏. I have 4 kids 4-11 and NEVER had an issue taking them out. Most of the time we are back by 8:30 anyhow. Not to mention the dozens of ‘kids safe Halloween” held all throughout the week including on Halloween. This is absolutely ridiculous.

  12. Caffeinated Joe

Nope. Halloween will always be October 31st.

  13. Lo

Nooooo! In my area Halloween is rarely on the 31st. Depends on the neighborhood but we usually have it the Tuesday before. I really hate. And the city moved our Halloween parade to Saturday morning. Lame. It was so much more fun and electric when it was slightly dark out and the floats were lit up.

  14. Nancy

Nope. It’s October 31st. I agree with everyone’s reasoning for why they say no. I read through each and every onlinement and I too cannot believe this is a “thing” at all.

  15. Charlie

    I vote yes!!

  16. Michele

I would be onboard with the last Saturday or even the last Friday of the month. I would love to spend more time out with the kids but just can’t because of school. My daughter looses an hour of sleep and she beonlinees a monster.

  17. Joy

A BIG NO from me. It’s only for a couple of hours. Most people have parties on the weekend before anyway. If this goes, we may as well change Christmas to the last Saturday.. just to give people one more Friday paycheck. *rollseyes*

  18. Leavesbegintofall

As it is, quite a few of the Halloween celebrations and trunk or treats are on the weekend anyway. It’s not hard to find stuff to do on Saturday, at least in my area, if that’s the day you need to celebrate.

  19. Rebecca M Shebester

It depends on what time it would be. Yes if it was 2-4pm. No if any later than 6pm. I have young kiddos and Sundays are early mornings for church. I’d prefer Friday from 6-8pm.

    • Rebecca M Shebester

And the next day at school is very difficult for teachers and students. It’s not a sacred holiday, I think people are blowing this out of proportion.

  20. Toni

I wish they’d just make the day after Halloween a school holiday!

  21. Karri

No, Halloween is Oct 31st! My kids are all grown up now but I always made it Trick or Treating and we milk cows on a small dairy farm just the kids husband and myself, you just make it happen and my kids got on the school bus at 6:45 ever school day. Remember it only last a few years and its over so enjoy!

  22. Julie

I absolutely love the idea of celebrating Halloween on the weekend rather than a school night. As a classroom teacher, I can tell you with 100 percent certainty that student learning tanks on Halloween day as well as day after, as well as ada (average daily attendance) and student behavior suffer tremendously due to celebration of Halloween on school nights.
Not to mention the fact that students bring an excessive amount of candy to school the day after Halloween and litter campus with an abnormal amount of candy wrappers. I will sign the petition to support movement to change Halloween to weekend event.

  23. MidwifeMama

No way. Some working parents work on the weekends as well. 🙂 I made arrangements to be off to be with my kid.
