What is the best bottle for sending in a lunchbox? We start kindergarten in the fall and I’m trying to get ready.

    • Nicole

I’ve tried so many water bottles for kids. My first choice at this point is Thermos funtainer. It keeps drinks cold for long periods, fits in a lunch box, is sweat proof, durable, and leak-proof as long as it’s properly closed. All parts onlinee apart easily so everything can wash and dry properly. I have some Contigo bottles that have rubber parts that will not separate from the lid (at least not that I can tell) and don’t properly dry so it gets moldy after a while.

      • Nisha

Agreed! After buying literally 20 cups, this is all I will send my kids with. It stays cold ALL day and the parts are easy to keep clean! All the contigo cups I have take me forever to clean properly!

I have these Contigo’s from Costco – https://www.costco.online/Contigo-Kids-Autospout-Water-Bottle,-3-piece.product.100470114.html. I think I bought the 3 pack on sale for around $12. They have held up well over the school year with no leaks at all. If your child is great at drinking water, stainless steel like the last one listed above will be a healthier choice, but mine are terrible at drinking water so I prefer the see-thru plastic bottles so they can see how much they drank.

I like the Zulu insulated straw cups. They clean easily and keep ice in the cup for a full day.

      Thank you for the advice!!!

    R these plastic or steel?

    • Amber (Hip Sidekick)

Hi there! The bottles in the top of the post have “plastic” listed in the details. The bottles in the bottom of the post list “stainless steel”. Hope that helps!

Jess, I second the Thermos Funtainer waterbottles. Both of my kids have used them for the past 4 years now (starting in Kindergarten) and we have never seen a leak. Another reason why I would definitely choose a stainless steel water bottle over a plastic one is that the plastic bottles tend to sweat. One of my kids schools actually mandated a “sock koozie” for all plasic waterbottles that were brought by the students for that reason.
