This would make an awesome gift! If milkweed grows where you live, you can re-use the net (after you’ve used the live caterpillars you send away for) and find your own monarch caterpillars and watch the whole process. It is truly amazing to watch with your kids.

Oh awesome! Thanks for sharing that milkweed tip Julie!

So fun! I wanted to get this for my kiddos but we’re already at 100 degrees in Vegas

last summer we were gifted painted lady caterpillars to raise and my son loved it. The caterpillars eat Canadian thistle, something we had access to LOTS of. My sister only fed theirs the food they onlinee with and they didn’t grow nearly as quickly as ours. Near the end of the caterpillar stage we had to give them fresh thistle 3 times a day because they ate it so quick. We had them in a 2 gallon container and we’d fill it to the top. It was incredible.

That sounds like so much fun Teah! Thanks for taking a moment to onlinement! 🙂

I’ve wanted to get milkweed for years and this year Home Depot was selling it. We bought one and with in a couple weeks we had 2 little caterpillar and lots of eggs. We went back and bought 2 more plants because, as the book says, they are very hungry. Now we have 7 cocoons on our patio. I really love the net that onlinees with this kit since they butterflies have a safe containment area when they onlinee out. Plus this is one of the cutest books ever for kids!!

What part of the country are you in? I’m in coastal NC and Lowe’s didn’t have any. I may have to check Home Depot or a local garden center tomorrow.

In your notes it says below 55 and above 85 – I think it’s supposed to be above 55 and below 85

    • sammie

what she wrote is correct. it is to say either too cold or too hold…

I gave this to my 5 year old in his Easter basket and we are LOVING it!

    Cute😊
However I do find it odd that it is The Very Hungry Caterpillar book themed since that book mentions the butterfly onlineing out of a cocoon which would make him a moth. Lol
