Reader Kahri Gives Back To Hope Haven—A Charity That’s Been In Her Family For Over 30 Years
What would you do with $100?
Back in December, we asked our readers who and how they would help those in needs if we provided $100 to the store of their choice. With this, an endless amount of stories emerged highlighting the amazing charities that mean the most to our Hip2Save onlinemunity.
Today, we’re telling the story of Kahri who practically grew up with Hope Haven Area Development Corporation given her mom has been their Director of Development and onlinemunity Relations for over 30 years! She got to know all the clients volunteering at events and eventually started working for their summer respite programs. In the last year, her brother also returned home to work for Hope Haven.
This wonderful organization provides jobs, job training, homes, life skills, respite, and such quality care to over 530 people in their small corner of the world. As a non-profit, they rely heavily on donations. Another organization Kahri belongs to, the Burlington Junior Women’s League, has been buying Christmas presents for the day habilitation program and individual clients who do not have families at all, or families with the means to buy them gifts, for the past few years.
This past Christmas, Kahri and her 5-year-old daughter decided that, in place of gifts for their family, each family member would choose a charity, and a gift would be purchased or donation to their desired organization. She and her daughter both chose Hope Haven. They shopped for supplies for their Alternative Services Program, a facet of Hope Haven that provides a wide range of services including group activities, onlinemunity integration, and paid work.
With the $100 Target gift card we sent Kahri, she and her brother, who is an Assistant Director of Development at Hope Haven, were able to purchase a 12-piece set of pots and pans, a large stock pot, washcloths, and dish towels for the kitchen housing Hope Haven’s Alternative Services program.
Soon after, Kahri and her daughter delivered the donations, along with their own personal gifts, to the program (and more from the Burlington Junior Women’s League, as well). Hope Haven staff and clients were ecstatic! They soon began mentioning their excitement for the large stock pot to cook up a huge batch of chili and all their other anticipated uses of their new kitchenware. Not only was Kahri happy to make a difference for this charity so near and dear to her heart, but she also loved that her daughter wanted to be so involved.
From all of us at Hip2Save, we’re so grateful to have generous readers like Kahri and her mother. ❤️
We send a big thanks to Kahri for reaching out about helping Hope Haven and we’re glad to have been part of their giving back experience!
