Could the end be onlineing for JCPenney stores?

JCPenney just released their Q4 Fourth Quarter and Fiscal 2018 Earnings and announced that they will be closing more stores than they had previously announced in January.

JCPenney will be closing 18 full-line stores and nine ancillary home and furniture stores due to a 255 million dollar net loss.😱 Nearly all these impacted stores are expected to close in the second quarter of 2019.

Although this is not as large of a store closing as the one they announced in 2017, it seems to be the ongoing trend with both JCPenney and other retailers.

I hope my JCPenney doesn’t close. I refuse to buy clothes and shoes online. I like to try them on. Shopping at a store is fun for me. You can’t gauge how see through a shirt is online. You can’t feel how onlinefy some shoes are online. Lastly, you can’t see how good something looks on you online. I don’t want to open boxes of disappointment.

Me too! I hope my store doesn’t close. This store is affordable for me and my family of 5!

    Agree

Same here but we seem to be in the minority on this. No one listens to us about this. Sales are booming online sadly & it’s also means that you can employ fewer ppl. 😡

I live 2.5 hours away from the nearest JC Penny store and with two kids it’s not easy to get out of town all the time to try things on in store…online shopping is the only way most of the time. But when given the chance I do love shopping in store and will miss going to the stores when able.

I love jc penny for work clothes, and last minute kids gifts! Plus they have Sephora in mine. So sad…

Hmm. I don’t see our Kalispell, MT store on the “safe” list. I also didn’t see it in the closing either. I hope they don’t close. They’re our only store here for “fancy” attire besides Ross and TJ Maxx.

      • violet

I cant find anywhere that it is or isnt closing. We wont have any decent clothing stores if it goes in Kalispell at all. Like you said, Target, Ross, TJMax.

      • Sara

I still can’t find anything one way or the other on Montana. To make both lists I Googled: jcpenney ___(state) closure. I looked in both the general search and the news search. Results for some states were actually found in searches for other states. Also, there is no consensus on the number of full stores closing. I’ve seen 15 – 18.

Part of the problem in the store close to me in Dover, DE is that they have closed most of the registers in the store (recently removing the kids and shoe registers) forcing everyone to check out in one of two spots, and the lines are often ridiculous. They also took out price scanners a few years ago, so if you just want a price check you have to wait in the long line. I don’t know if they are trying to save money by having less cashiers, but it’s causing them to lose business. ☹️

    • Christopher

You can use the app to check prices, when you’re in the store it should recognize that and go into store mode. There’s signs in one of the jcps near me where the scanners used to be.

  12. Susan

I’ve tried the app for price checks, but it doesn’t always seem to be accurate. I can deal with the lack of scanners better than the really long lines and lack of cashiers. ☹️

    More closing full stores:

    Newark, CA
    St. Augustine, FL
    Brunswick, GA
    Sanford, NC
Seattle, WA (closed 5/3, closure announced 10/8/18)
