You’re not supposed to have ketones in your urine, this is a very dangerous diet.

    • Light

No, it’s not a dangerous diet!

    • jenn

Ketoacidosis is the dangerous level, not a ketone producing keto diet. Check out her hip2keto site or search google. They are two different things.

      • Maddie

Ketones in general are not a good idea. There’s not enough research to ‘prove’ it’s bad but give it time. The brain is meant to run on glucose, not ketones.

        • Linda

Not to sound harsh but maybe research the Keto Diet. It can be used to help patients with epilepsy, cancer, and Alzheimer’s along with reversing diabetes and much more.

      • Naomi

I’m on a Keto diet and I eat protein & veggies. I think the diet that you’re speaking of is the Atkins diet. I’ve cut out breads, grains, & sugar.

        • jenn

Same here. There are many ways to do keto, even vegetarian. I can’t even eat red meat and need to limit cheese, and still make it work!

      • Jennifer

Some nutritionists support the keto diet. I am a registered nurse. The keto diet is not for me but it doesn’t mean I should tell others it’s dangerous without considering all the facts. All diets should be discussed with a physician on an individual basis. I read this site daily and Collin has never pushed keto on anyone. Her team only offers ideas on various things that happen to include diets. We are adults so we can make our own educated decisions here. Telling people not to do a diet because you consider it dangerous per your study is your opinion. Bringing up Collin having an eating disorder is hitting below the belt. The fact that she shared a sensitive part of her past was humbling to me as a reader. The way you just regurgitated it was demeaning and inappropriate. As my mother would say…you owe her an apology…consider that.

        • jenn

Awesome response Jennifer. Plus, her Keto site does have information from a nutritionist who specializes in Keto.

        • jenn

And, also if i remember right, she started Keto for digestive issues, not to lose weight. Has nothing to do with bringing back an eating disorder.

      • Mel

Dr Atkins died from traumatic brain injury from slipping and falling on ice. Not a follower of his…just the facts.

    • R

I’m not a dr nor claim to be, but a friend of mine who has been on the Keto diet was warned off it by his physician because his blood sugar levels really high and he was at risk for developing Type 2 diabetes (his weight and eating habits were not previously an issue; this is a man that regularly visited the gym). That was enough to scare me off from ever considering it, not to mention that there seems something wrong about peeing on a stick to maintain a diet.

    • Denise

That’s right eating chips and drinking beer is way healthier

      • R

        What? I missed that suggestion.

Thanks for posting! My son was diagnosed with minimal change disease fall of 2018 and we need to test his urine often and these can be expensive and they only are good for a couple months before you need to throw them away.

  3. Shelly

Thank you so much for posting, I really appreciate the savings! I don’t know why some people Feel the need to debate the validity of the diet on here. 🙄

Dr. Atkins had a heart attack, congestive heart failure, and hypertension (high blood pressure) from his diet. My mistake on what he died from but those factors I listed were involved as well as hitting his head but an autopsy was not performed bc his wife refused it for this exact reason so that ppl wouldn’t be able to say his health issues r from his eating nothing but high animal fat and protein. My point exactly. A diet like that causes all of those problems with the heart. It’s just onlinemon sense u can’t eat bacon and eggs every meal and not expect you aren’t going to go to your grave early.

    • Rachel

Laura, sadly you are misinformed and frankly, dead wrong about keto. This is not an all you can eat bacon and cheese way of eating. Keto is not Adkins and not a “diet”. I limit daily carbs by not eating bread, pasta, or processed foods. Why? Because the body breaks them down as sugar. Guess what feeds cancer? Glucose. Look…the body needs SOME GOOD carbs- but never sugar. There are carbs in vegetables and I choose those. There is sugar in nearly all processed food. Even most bottled ketchup contains sugar and shredded/ bagged cheese has potato starch in it…which the body processes as sugar. There are nearly 60 different names for sugar. I choose to do research, cook the majority of my own meals and be wary of what I eat. I choose to eat an avocado or use olive oil for fat over fast food. This way of eating has improved my life. Losing weight while having more energy and mental clarity are just amazing side effects. No argument intended…you do you….but please do some research before you clump keto with fad dieters.

      • R

See, this is what REALLY rubs me the wrong way about these diets. I’m thrilled people take their health seriously and most of us could stand to reduce our sugar intakes, but your onlinements about cancer and glucose are irresponsible, to say the absolute least. My friend – who never drank or smoked and was a normal weight – is dying of esophageal, lung, and perineal cancer, and it isn’t because she ingested too much sugar in her lifetime. And her team of drs aren’t withholding the Keto holy grail from her to make money from big pharma. Congrats on your weight loss, but stop spreading bad information. After all, I’ve heard red meat causes cancer too 🙄
