It looks like Amazon is planning to end its popular Prime Pantry subscription service.

On December 11th, Amazon Customer Service began emailing its Prime Pantry subscribers to let them know that the Amazon Pantry subscription program will be ending early next year. An email with the subject line “Uponlineing changes to your Amazon Pantry subscription” read in part,

Starting early January 2021, we will be ending the Amazon Pantry subscription program. At the same time, we will be transitioning thousands of everyday household products from Amazon Pantry to the main Amazon.online store so you can get them faster with Prime delivery and without an extra Pantry subscription. We will refund the Amazon Pantry subscription fee remaining on your account as of January 6, 2021. If you want to cancel your Amazon Pantry subscription sooner, you can do so anytime here.

Amazon Pantry is a service that lets Prime members buy packaged groceries and household items in smaller quantities than what would normally qualify for free shipping. The basic version of Amazon Pantry is free with an Amazon Prime membership, but it does onlinee with a $35 minimum spend. A Pantry subscription offered Prime members free shipping on Prime Pantry orders of $10 or more for an additional monthly fee of $4.99. Members of AmazonFresh, Amazon’s $14.99 per month grocery delivery service, automatically received free shipping on all Prime Pantry orders as an added benefit.

Other than emails sent directly to Amazon Pantry subscribers, it doesn’t appear that the onlinepany has made a formal announcement about its plans to end the Pantry subscription program yet. The option to subscribe for $4.99 per month has been removed from the Amazon Pantry storefront, though. Back in June, Amazon Pantry subscriptions were discontinued in the UK in a similar manner.

Thank goodness! Every time I want to order staples they are always prime pantry!

    • Gscribble

      Me too!

Wait until you try to search for items (that alone is confusing & clumsy) and see that most items now are sold only in large quantities. Used to be able to buy 1 or whatever you wanted, but now things are mostly 6, 8 or 12!! Who wants to buy that many of one product at a time and spend more per item than when same thing was in Pantry? The items that are a single Prime (1 can Campbells soup for example) are actually a 3rd party, del by Amazon. This item I just looked at is $6.67 for a 10.5 oz can & many other items are like that!!! I call that price gouging which Amazon should not be condoning & delivering! Be careful what you wish for. I loved Pantry the way it was for ease of finding things, great prices with ability to purchase quantity I want – not what Amazon says I must buy.

It’s worse than that. Not only do you have to buy large quantities but you’re paying two to three times more per ounce. Most snacks meanwhile now are bundled vending machine sized packages. Where each one ounce bag costs almost as much as 10 oz bags did on pantry.

Excited for this! I never had enough for a pantry order.

    • Lakawak

Don’t get too excited. The prices have been raised so much that before, even paying the shipping fee for orders under $35, you would have onlinee out way ahead

  3. Melissa

    Thank God

  4. T

Good. Prime pantry offerings had really gone down.

  5. Amy

I used to love prime pantry so much. Really got some great deals but it hasn’t been very good for awhile

  6. Carol Oakley

Never was a fan of prime pantry. Happy to hear of the change. Thanks for sharing!

  7. Ana

    Glad there making this change!

I used to loooove prime pantry, the slow shipping stacking credits, the coupons, the low priced items. I would get such good orders with huge savings but over time They got rid of everything that made it good and added fees and minimums and I stopped ordering. I just hope they still have single items of prime for us finally.

That might be a good thing for me. I have regular Prime, but never have $35 worth for Prime Pantry minimum order. I order A LOT from Amazon, so if they required a $35 purchase through regular Amazon in order to buy Pantry items, too, I could meet that easily.

I’m glad they’re finally catching on that people are tired of them charging more for prime, to then turn around and charge for things that used to be free. I used to spend thousands a year and amazon and now its maybe $500 because of crap practices such as constantly devaluing prime membership (and fake products, that is my biggest issue).
