If anyone is on the fence about this, I had the battery replaced on my 6s, and it made a huge difference! The battery was showing 80% capacity when they changed it, and I had to recharge once during the day. Yesterday, I went the whole day without charging at STILL had over 50% battery life left. I did take about an two hours total to get it done, and I made an appointment.

Did they charge you for the labor it took to install it?

    • Mary

I have the same question, will they charge labor or just the part, in this case the battery, if I am not longer under warranty?

    • Mel

No, you will just need to pay $29 plus tax

      • Mary

        Thanks

  3. Cait

I just had mine replaced, they did it for free since it was still within the warranty period!

I hope they have improved this process. I had this done earlier this year. This was neither quick nor easy. At the time that I did it you had to order the battery and then wait 3 to 4 weeks for it to onlinee in to the store. After they notified you that it had arrived, you had 7 days to make an appointment to get the battery installed or they’d give your battery to someone else. When I went to my 2:00 pm appointment, they told me that I could pick up my phone at 6:00 pm! In their defense, they did have it ready about 5:00 pm. After all of that, they didn’t put the phone back together correctly or they messed something up inside the phone. My phone rattled and when it vibrated you could hear it across the room. I had to make two additional trips back to the store after battery installation to get this rectified. Hopefully others have had better experiences but I am aware of someone else who had the same issues as me.

I know it’s ridiculous ! I called batteries plus and they will do it in 15 minutes . It’s 79 dollars but if you sign up online you save 10 bucks so only 69 dollars . When apple keeps your phone for two hours it makes me wonder , what the heck are they going to it ! And why do they treat you like they are doing you a favor ?

  5. Jackie

I went to get it replace at the beginning of the year but left the store after I found out it was going to take at least 2 hrs for someone to take my order and a week without my phone. Maybe it will be less crowded now?

  6. Edith

Had mine replaced yesterday and I am pretty satisfied. It took about 45 mins for them to change the battery but I did have to sit around for 30 mins to set an appointment. The process was about an hour and a half total. I have a 6s so I was was out of warranty. Came out to $31 and some change.

Had mine changed a week ago. Went about 2 months ago and they talked me out of it. Went to another store this time. Took about an hour and a half total. Had an appointment. Did the first time too but I didn’t get helped until at least an hour after my appointment time. Choose your store wisely. $29 plus tax.

  8. Julie

I did this for my kids’ phones over the summer, and I think it was about $40 each. Make an appointment and plan for it to take several hours.

  9. Laurie

I assume you have to go to an Apple store? The closest ones are 2.5 hours away from us in large cities. Are there any other options? Thanks!

    • Christine

I’m wondering the same! I think we have an authorized repair center closer, but it’s not an official Apple store.

    • dealgurl

Laurie, you can check to see if there’s an authorized Apple repair shop in your area. You should be able to find them on the apple site.

I’m scared to say anything else publicly about iphone because my iphone 6 died about a week after I posted last month on H2S that that I was not investing in a new one. I literally hated that phone. Well, now I have a new iphone cuz mine wouldn’t even onlinee on a week later, lol. I had no time to take my time and research another model. It was a mess.

      • Beth

We have a Best Buy near me that is authorized – I made an appt online – very easy.

        • Rena

          Ahh good idea

  10. Jacque

I had my son’s battery replaced at Best Buy about 4-5 weeks ago on his 6S. It was on a whim because we went in to look at a replacement phone since his was dying so rapidly. Thankfully, the sales associate mentioned that they do the battery replacements. The whole process — start to finish — was about 2 hours. $30 later, and my son has a phone again that keeps a charge for at least the whole day!

  11. Melanie

Silly question… when they say iPhone 6 or older do they mean/does this include iPhone 5 and below or iPhone 7 and up?

    • Holly (Hip2Save Sidekick)

That means iPhone 6 and up. Hope that helps!

  12. Rudy

I just got it done on an iPhone 6 and it was about $31 and some. I went to a best buy that is authorized by apple. Made an appt and the process took about 30 mins for them to change the battery, but it could take up to an hour and a half. It made a big difference once the put in the new battery. It is only for Iphone 6 and up, meaning iPhone 5s and below would not qualify for this.

    • Melanie

      Thanks for clarifying 😊

  13. Laura

Heads up to anyone that gets work done on their iPhone anywhere else but the Apple Store – if you have issues down the road – to later take it to the Apple Store – if they open your phone to see an after market battery in your phone – they will close it back up and not touch it

  14. Cathy

IF you get your battery replaced, please back up your phone before taking it into the store. I had my battery replaced last week. I had backed up my phone to itunes as the website suggested when I made the appointment to get the battery replaced. Well while attempting to remove the battery from my phone, they cracked 2 battery brackets. SO I got a brand new iPhone 6+ for $29 + tax. BUT I had to restore all of my apps and pictures etc. Thankfully I had made a backup. Do I reonlinemend replacing the battery – ABSOLUTELY! My phone also had to be charged at least once a day and now I can go a whole day plus with out charging. Whole process in store took a little less than 2 hours.

  15. Courtney Garab

Does this also apply to iPods?

    • Holly (Hip2Save Sidekick)

As of right now, they are saying that it only applies to iPhones. Hope that helps!

  16. Carrie

Would iPhone S.E. qualify? I think it came out just after the iPhone 6. Is that right? My battery has to be charged in the middle is the day so this would be great if it qualifies.

    • Holly (Hip2Save Sidekick)

If it came out later than the iPhone 6 it should work.

  17. Aim

I replaced the battery beginning of the year but later i noticed that my phone heatsup alot and after several months i need to charge my phone 2,3 times a day. I have iPhone 6.

  18. Vivian

Does your phone battery have to be at 80% in order to get the $29 battery replacement?

    • Holly (Hip2Save Sidekick)

I am not seeing any limitation on percentage.

      • Vivian

Thanks, Holly! I was at an Apple store beginning of the year and one of their employees looked at my phone and said it was at 85% and I didn’t qualify. He said I needed to be at 80%. I will double check then.

  19. Pansy

My iphone 6 must be pretty bad, I’m charging it 4 or 5 times a day.

  20. Melani

There is no Apple store near us, so they wanted to charge $15 to install it. I bought a new battery on ifixit, and my hubby had it installed in about 5 mins. It was less than $29 as well.

  21. Pam

It will be a cold day in Hades before I step foot in an Apple store again. What a total cluster. Made an appointment and arrived on time. Waited about 15 minutes and they called my name. The tech then told me that he would do “diagnostics” and then I would need to set up another appointment in a week or so to bring in my phone and leave it for them to work on. What? I pulled out a print out of the appointment which clearly said “appointment for battery replacement.” He told me that was not how it worked. I asked to speak to the store manager who then told me they didn’t have enough techs working. I told him tough, he shouldn’t have set up an appointment for me then. He agreed and told me he would put me in an “emergency” spot. I waited 3.25 hours at the freaking store to get the batter replaced. Next phone, android.
