   Thanks for sharing this deal. I have some that I got through MightyNest that I threw in the dryer one day because I couldn’t find any dryer sheets. Talk about a money saver! I was wondering though how to add scent (cause I like a fresh clean clothes scent) so the essential oils tip is a great one! Might get these just because.

  You just add a few drops directly to the wool ball(s). I usually do maybe 2 out of the 6. I would just start with 2-3 drops at a time.

   I was just reading that it’s a fire hazard to put essential oils on these and put them in the dryer. Essential oils are very flammable. I would steer clear of doing that.

  I add EOs to my candles and have no issues, I’ve also added EOs to my dryer balls numerous times. This is just my experience

  100% pure essential oils are a wonderful addition to the dryer balls. The tricky part is when onlinepanies promote “pure” essential oils that are actually synthetic. As long as you find a reputable onlinepany, adding NO fillers to their bottles, you should be ok.
  Lemongrass is my favorite. 😍

  just 2 or 3 drops will not make a fire and will make everything smell wonderful! I like lavender. I use Young Living, pure oils.

  Certified Pure Essential oils (like DoTerra) are not flammable. I add Lavender (3 drops to each ball) to my wool balls and I have been doing so for years with no issues.

   Beth, I am sure people do it all the time without any issues, but it still is a potential fire hazard. It’s just something I would personally avoid doing, but understand not everyone would make that same choice.

  The only cheap Smart Sheep brand I found on ebay was $3.99, but it’s for a used 6 pack dryer balls. The rest are all $15 and higher.

   I bought these quite a while ago. I must be the only person to have issues. I was left with the most static I have ever seen! Any suggestions?

  Same here! I use Seventh Generation free and clear liquid detergent, and oxy powder from Dollar Tree (EWG rates it the safest), my laundry is all cotton. I havent used any softener in years, and never had static problems……………but the wool balls made EVERYTHING static. I couldn’t believe it………even the balls themselves got stuck in the clothes like velcro. I now use those nubby dryer balls that look like chew toys, and those really soften the clothes and cut dryer time.

  So why are we getting static? I have hard water, but I don’t see why it would be an issue.

   I got lots of static from the dryer balls too. Now I just use plain white vinegar added to the rinse cycle instead of fabric softener. No static anymore. It doesn’t leave any scent either. Our family is very sensitive to all those scented products and vinegar is a godsend. It seems to keep the colors in my clothes more vibrant too. White Vinegar is so economical as well. I use it for everything.

    I bought the Kitchow organic brand over a year ago and really don’t think they make a difference in drying time, towels being softer, or static. Because of allergy issues we don’t use dryer sheets and use scent free laundry detergent. As Daisy suggested, I just started to put about 2 tablespoons of vinegar in my fabric softener dispenser of my HE washer. It gets rid of the detergent residue and makes clothes, especially towels look cleaner.

    I ordered the dryer balls since they are a great buy with the code. Based on some of the onlinements, I looked into essential oils. There are many pros and cons based on the uses of oils. Some suggest the quantity and quality of the oils may be the reason for the fires. However, for me, I am not taking the chance just to get a floral or citrusy scent to the laundry, opting just for that fresh laundered smell. I also checked into static caused by the balls. Interestingly it appears that making balls of aluminum foil (2-3 about 3 inches in diameter) or pinning large safety pins to socks or any fabric item, in addition to the dryer balls, work wonders in the dryer to eliminate static. An online search can be made to find out more. Hopefully this information helps someone. Happy drying everyone. 🙂

    I have been using this brand for several years. I also had the problem with static. I put pink Himalayan salt (I found in bulk at Winco) into a satchel that I sewed with scrap fabric, I dampen the satchel before putting in the dryer and has fixed my static problem.

    Essential oils have a flashpoint temperature on the label. A lot of people are not aware of this. EO’s are used in wax melts & candles which are both hot. Just pay attention to the label & the flashpoint temperature. I also use them in my washer.
