This is so cool for the children who really need them .

  2. Casey

People remember this should be for the ones that need it. Not for you just because its free.

    • Tia

I understand what you’re saying. However, Verizon could have donated the book bags to any number of charities that collect these types of items.

      • Nicole

I agree! Abusing the program is driving to every Verizon to get free stuff and hoarding them in your closet. Getting one backpack for your child doesn’t mean you’re abusing the program.

      • M

I agree with Tia. Our church donates the supplies and backpacks directly to the school in our area with low inonlinee students. This Verizon program seems more like a promotion although it will still help many.

    • Dawn

I totally agree with you Casey! So many title 1 schools with kids whose parents can’t even get them shopping. We all have down times with money but unfortunately those that need it won’t even know about this promotion because they don’t onlinee on sites like this! So I do also agree with the other poster that says that Verizon should donate it themselves to a local school and leave distribution to that schools discretion.

      • Alma

I disagree. The school does not know peoples situations as far as their finances and ability to buy extras.

        • Sara

They know about the finances of the parents of kids on free and reduced lunch.

          • Ice Mom

I disagree. The free and reduced lunch is very liberal on their standards and they are based on last years earnings. I could have been making minimum wages last year and now making almost six figures. You can’t judge a book by its cover. πŸ™‚ Plus because our school has been deemed “poverty stricken” the whole school qualifies for free school lunch regardless of inonlinee.

    • Sim

      I agree

    • susan

The problem with your logic is they offer these in very high end zip codes. If they are designed for only kids who need them they would donate them and not be sending them to stores where the average home is 7 figures.

  3. Mmt721

A lot of times those charities don’t give them specifically to the child, they just give them to the school. I work in a struggling title 1 school where the kids onlinee to school to eat, we get donated supplies like this but they’re given to the school. We get a couple hundred of them and we use them through the year as needed since they can’t be given to every child. Verizon doing this gives the opportunity to the individual child. This way they are actually able to onlinee to school with supplies and a back pack and not have to ask a teacher for one, granted if they’re able to get to a store.

A few months I ordered a box of toothbrushes designed for kids in pre-k so the kids could learn a early lesson in having healthy teeth and gums with a booklet with each brush, I donated to my sisters class so they could distribute to 120 kids. She was amazed at this program, so was I. I love to spread the greatness we’re blessed with by being couponers on these sharing sites…😘

Can you share the information about the toothbrush program?

      • Deborah

Sounds like a very good idea. Will do this in my nearest elementary school. Thanks.

Can you share the information about the toothbrush program?

    • LaurieG

Can you share the toothbrush program

      • Mia

The toothbrush program is through Colgate. I ordered them and donated them to my son classroom too.

  5. Florida mom

We like shopping for school supplies in Staples and then pack it up for our children and also some bags or supplies to share with other kids through backpack drives in church.

    • Holly (Hip2Save Sidekick)

That’s an awesome idea! Love it!

  6. Juma

This is a great gesture and one that needs more publicity. I wanted to share it with my family members who work with the school system and some other nonprofit organizations but unfortunately this event is not in North Carolina tried a few cities. But I was able to share with some friends here in Maryland who are involved in the school system and they are going to pass the info around. I know some school districts won’t allow these kinds of book bags they require mesh or clear book bags, but they can still use the other supplies. Thanks for posting I’m sure lots of families and school will be super excited with any assistance.

  7. Tina9222

Jaime there’s a few programs depending on geographic area, the one I did is Colgate brite smiles bright future, typically around the time kids are going back to school…

    Kudos to Verizon!!!

I live in Texas and there isn’t one remotely close to where we are. I got flooded from Harvey and my daughters school changed uniforms after I had to replace the ones that got damaged. No one helped. Even when they know.

    • Tina πŸ’–

My family was also affected by Hurricane Harvey in Texas, although not to the extent that yours was. (((Hugs))) If you live in HOUSTON, check out the YMCA of Greater Houston, as they just launched their Operation Backpack yesterday. If you live down on the coast around ROCKPORT, First Baptist Church, in Rockport, is hosting their Backpacks & Blue Jeans event on Sat., August 11th, at 10AM. You MUST register by July 15. This is a FREE family event and activities will include free backpacks, back-to-school haircuts, clothing give away, immunizations, + more. See their Facebook page for more details and for info on how to register online. Other good contacts in Rockport for assistance are Bethel Baptist Church (Gracie Romero) and the Rockport Relief Camp (Samantha McCrary). And, for anyone reading this who experienced flooding recently in the VALLEY/South Texas, reach out to Sharing His Harvest (on Facebook), as they are currently hosting a school supply drive for that area. Hope this helps some. God bless you!

It is not Verizon I think it is TCC wich is a Verizon authorized retailer, so kudos for TCC then.

  11. hipsaver2

I looked this up for my sister, and there are none in our city.

  12. Ice Mom

I found one semi-close by. I put it in my calendar.

  13. JES

My mom is a teacher and has been for a long time. The school knows more about you than you probably realize, just from the time spent with your kiddos, 5 days a week. My mom know which of her kids can afford things and which ones don’t get food once they leave campus.

  14. Mamabear

There is not a single one participating in NH 😭

  15. Katie

    My toothbrushes never came!:(

  16. LuxIllumi'Naughty

Seems like if your family doesn’t need the assistance of the backpack & school supplies, you could still participate in this event by getting one that you/your child then donates. It might be a very easy, enjoyable, and tangible way to teach your child about awareness of others’ situations, taking action, and how fulfilling helping others (even anonymously) is.

  17. D

Verizon is not giving Free Back Packs in Albuquerque NM?? WHY?

  18. Joyce G

There are many needy children that could benefit from this. It would allow parents to purchase other needed items such as clothing and other necessities. My family struggles to make ends meet and with 4 school age children, it gets pretty expensive with school supplies.

  19. Yvonne

This is really awesome so people can’t afford thing for their children in having hard time now for mine lost job and alot more thank u for all ur help people helping people

I thought this is the link: https://wirelesszone.online/backpack-giveaway/. The store in Annandale, VA is in the list. I took my nephew to this store at 1:00 pm. Then, the guy told me that their store doesn’t hand out the free stuff. He told me the store in Fairfax, VA hand out the free stuff.
