Hi! I just wanted to share the Fairy Garden I made using Dollar Tree items you posted.

I found the little cute items plus I bought a few flower pots in different sizes to stack them. I added a couple of garden stakes. Total spent was $11 for 5 fairy items, 2 garden stakes, 3 pots plus a bag of potting mix.

I didn’t buy flowers cause I got them from around my backyard. Home Depot is having a great weekend sale so I may buy a few extra flowers there 🌷😊. Hope you like it!

Has anyone been able to keep a small succulent plant alive for more than two months? I’ve killed two plants so far. The first was jade. I don’t know what the second one was.

I used potting soil meant for succulents with the second plant. I had a difficult time transplanting the second plant to a bigger pot. It died faster because I had to hit and shake the pot to get the plant out.

My first floor apartment gets mostly indirect sunlight. The second floor walkway blocks the sun most of the day. All three of my windows are on the same wall. I try not to water it too much. I water it about every three days or so.

Too much water? Too much kills them quickly.

From what you’re saying it’s too much water. #1 containers must have drainage holes…so water don’t just sit in pot and cause root rot. Also the pot shouldn’t be too large or else that would cause over watering too. The succulent or plant should fit just right with a tiny bit of space to grow. #2 water only when it’s dry. Use your finger and do the finger test. Stick your finger in the soil in an inch or so…if nothing sticks than you can give it some water. #3 bright light. (Which seems you have so it’s ok.

How much time does it need in the sun? The second floor walkway creates a shadow over the sidewalk next to my window for most of the day. It gets indirect sunlight.

I need to explain my handling of the two dead plants better. With the first plant, I did check to see if it was dry. I bought a small pot at a ceramics sale on a college campus in November 2016 that already had a jade plant in it. The pot had a hole in the bottom. It died in February 2017. I went on a cruise 2/9/17 and got back on 2/13/17. I am 75% sure that I watered it shortly before leaving. I forgot to water it after I got back. I realized that I forgot about a week after I got back. While it was alive, I only left it in the window for 1 – 2 hours each day. It grew a few inches.

The second plant was in a pot that had a hole in the bottom. I let it drain over the sink when watering it like I did with the first plant. I then put the plant back in the sun. I rotated the plate it was sitting on every few days. I left the plant in the window. I only took it out once for a couple days.

The only time I’ve killed a succulent was from watering too much. They like a lot of sun and to be left alone. They seem to thrive When I ignore them. A few sprinkles of water once a week or less.

Too cute! I think I might just have to make a fairy garden.

Cute!!!! I work at our town’s “second hand store”. The other day, a lady came in and purchased a variety of tiny items to make a fairy garden with her 4 yr. old grandson.

Adorable 🙂 My 4 year old loves to work in the garden and lawn. Anything to keep them busy, learn a craft, and get fresh air.
