Sent from reader, Jenny:

If anyone is in need of a last minute cute bus driver gift, I picked up these items at Dollar Tree and Walmart.

If you’re wanting something smaller, just use the garden gloves and shovel and attach gift tag. You could also grab a cactus and attach gift tag – cute, simple and just a few dollars! The gloves and shovel were both from Dollar Tree.

If you’re thinking you want to add flowers and a little cactus type plant, I picked these up a Walmart. The yellow flowers I thought looked like summer and were an appropriate color for a bus driver.

The plastic basket/bucket was perfect to hold everything (from the Dollar Tree)!

    • Steph

Following! I really want to do something for our bus driver too!

    • Susan Crawford

When my brother was driving a bus one of the kids parents gave him a $30.30.00 gift card to lowes. I would think whatever you can afford. $10.00 might be an appropriate amount or whatever you feel you can afford.

    • Steph

      Thanks

  3. JA

We gave ours a $10 gc to McDonald’s and a hand written thank you card. He is a sweet man! I also gave him a Hickory Farms box at Christmas.

  4. Cami

    So cute! Thanks for sharing

  5. SLA1981

I would think any where from $10-$20 depending how you can afford. I would stay away from coffee cards!!

    • nin

Curious-why stay away from coffee cards?

      • kerRI

Maybe because of the bathroom..?!? Hard to stop driving a bus on a whim !! Lol

    • Beth

Do you mean like Dunkin’ Donuts? Why? I’m just wondering bc that’s what I usually give ours – is that bad?

      • Susan

I would say because people either love or hate coffee. I taught for ten years…and hate coffee. Starbucks gift cards always got passed on when I got them. I gave my son’s bus driver a Chick-fil-A gift card.

        • Amber

You could say people either love or hate any place. I would say any type of coffee place would be perfectly acceptable and appreciated! Coffee places like dunkin donuts, Starbucks and Tim Hortons have plenty of other choices they could buy if they don’t like coffee.

          • ana

Thank you Amber, Saying I hate coffee and I’m going to just regift it seems rude to me. Especially when it’s a person who gets a paycheck, it’s not a volunteer position and these are people who work with children 🙁
What about just thanking the people that do things for us? What about just trying to be respectful all through the year? Smiling at someone or thanking them can go a long way. Not only those who work with our children but utility workers, cashiers, waiters or mail/ups, ect. Lets just be nice and I’m not sure money or stuff is the answer.

I hate coffee too and am a teacher and everyone buys you coffee cards (they get regifted) I think a DQ, McDonalds etc is better. Our bus drivers here work a split shift and most go grab lunch inbetween shifts out.

  6. Tracy

? Where would they put the basket on the bus? I’d be afraid it would roll all over.

My husband has driven school bus for 5 years now. He is always so appreciative of any gift or token of thanks. Drawings from his “littles” are the best, particularly when they feature him driving the bus! He has received gardening gloves in the past & LOVED them. Gift cards are always a hit. One family gave him some spice rubs for summer BBQ’s. That was unique & will be put to good use. Another family gets him a new Harley t-shirt every year. “Crazy socks” are good too – they’re fun & for most guys, they’re going to fit. I think the most “interesting” gift in the past 5 years was a gift card to Hooters. Yikes!

  8. Suzanne

We gave our driver a pampering gift bag with nice soap, lip balm and lotion. 🙂

I drive the school bus and it is nice to be remembered and appreciated.

  10. Pat

And don’t forget the cafeteria workers They work very hard each and every day too.

  11. Justine

Thank you for mentioning bus drivers! There are a lot of behind-the-scenes support staff (not just teachers) that make education possible for our children . . . such as bus drivers, custodians, kitchen staff, librarians, school secretaries, crossing guards, etc. I was an elementary school recess supervisor for a while, and that is a job I don’t take for granted anymore.

There are to many people to give everyone a gift. I like to picking a different staff member for each holiday or event. This year for end of year I gave a thank you gift to the PTA members. They work hard too and deserve recognition. I do something for the teacher as well but like to give something to someone who might be over looked.
