   We went today for the first time to build the Window Birdhouse. I had preregistered my son, but they said they never see the list and it doesn’t matter if you register online. Is this how it is everywhere? What is the point of registering online??? Luckily we had went right at 9:00, so my son had no problem getting a kit to build. It was absolutely crazy. Soooooo many kids with hammers.

  Register! I registered they told me not to and had me resign up. Next month I registered and when I got there they ran out. Today I didn’t register went in at 10 and they did not give us the birdhouse because I did not register. I’m thankful that it’s free but they need to make up their mind!

  My small town does it like yours, v. The registration doesn’t matter, but I don’t think they run out. It may be for larger areas that have limits.

  The Home Depot I go to verifies your registration on their list. If you don’t register, you don’t get the kit for that day, but an older kit if there are extras available. The list is consistently over 100 kids registered every month.

  We were told by our local Home Depot to register every month & do it early. They have to order supplies almost a week early and if you wait to register, they can’t get an accurate amount to order (although they do order some extra). If you do not register, you will not get that months build. They will give you a previous month build and only until they run out. Our Home Depot matches our name to a list. One final thought, it was refreshing to see that Home Depot has an open door policy for special needs adults for the monthly build. As a mom to a 6 year old son with special needs, I am happy to see an inclusive Home Depot.

  Agreed! My sister and I pre registered. I figured they would stop registering people after so many signed up. Nope. They had the line of kids wrapped around three aisles! So, after waiting for TEN minutes and my autistic son not being able to handle the noise of the hammers, we left.
  Side note, Michael’s was next door so sister and I got crafts for the kids to do at home. It was 20 percent off, we ended up making shrinky dink Mickey mouse key chains. Had an excellent selection of girl themed kits but very few for the boys unfortunately.

   Unfortunately, there are people who take advantage. I was there once when a lady showed up with her whole girl scout group. The registration list showed that she had only registered one child, but that did not stop her from arguing until all the girls were aconlinemodated. The poor kids who came after her, who were on the list, were not able to participate because they ran out of kits.

  I see girl scout troops at my local home depot almost every month. I guess they have as much right as any kid to be there but I wish they would take the kits and build elsewhere bc its always a really big troop and all the other kids have to wait till they clear out since the room for the kids workshop is kind of small.

   My son went today, we were registered. They only gave kits to those registered. I think it depends on the popularity of the kit.

   At my local store, it doesn’t matter if you register or not. They stated it slows down registration. They feel first onlinee, first served is fair. The lady in charge stated every month they receive a different amount of kits. I do believe it’s up to the individual store to honor online registration.
   We went today (early) with my cub scout group. We had no issues, but all 11 boys were there by 9:15.

   They tell us to register, so I always register and screenshot, just in case I need it when I get there, And I like taking my grandkids to bass pro shop, Michael, home Depot, joAnn, Lowes plus they have a summer program.

   We were registered. Got there at 11 and they had already run out of kits. Had to go to another store that we were not registered at and had no problem getting a kit. Appreciate that it’s free but feel it should better organized. We would even pay if it meant not setting our daughter up for disappointment.

  Same. I would’ve paid as well. I thought the bird houses that attach to the window were so cool. Went to Michael’s because the wait was over 30 minutes even though we registered. Michael’s had ONE Bird house left and I had my kid and my sister had her 2. So we did something else.

    Registration takes maybe 30 seconds, so I don’t see the point in *not* doing it and/or bringing a print-out of the email or screenshot that shows that you’re registered. Or eliminate the guesswork by asking your store what they prefer you do.

    We’ve been going to these monthly for a few years now and only once did they run out of kits (we did show up closer to the end of the workshop, to be fair)…but we were able to go to another store that still had them, so that’s another option.

    You can go into any store and ask if there are any extra kits from the workshop or previous workshops to take homeboy and make. I’ve done it several time they’re very nice about, ask me how many I need and go and check. The associate never onlinees from the back empty handed! They gives me the pin for apron too! So those parents with special needs please ask to take your project home, or go back another day to get it, I prefer to do them at home too.
