   Slightly off topic, but I would love some input. Last year I bought a front load HE Samsung washer and it DESTROYS my clothes! Brand new clothes onlinee out pilled after one wash. And I am very particular about the quality of clothes I buy, so I don’t buy low quality cotton or rayon/polyester blends (think Old Navy, Target). I’ve tried everything from decreasing the amount of detergent I use, using HE detergent and liquid fabric softener, and I always wash on the delicate cycle. Can anyone reonlinemend a washer that does not destroy clothes?

  Speed Queen. Costs a bit more but we have been nothing but happy with it. Five year warranty and expected to last 25 years. You would be lucky to get 6 years out of a Whirlpool machine so don’t buy this one in the post. Last two we had were Whirlpool and they both only lasted 6 years. Just junk.

  Errr… same here ! All my clothes get pillings… tried several detergents, stopped fabric softener too! Nothing helps!

  Errrrr….it’s not your machine specifically but most high efficiency front loaders destroy clothes because 1) they use very little water and 2) they rely on the agitation of your clothes to clean. This onlinebination results in clothes wearing out so much quicker.

  We lived overseas for 6 months and used a front loader machine. Practically all my clothes got so beat up that I ended up not bringing them home.

  Thanks bunny. I think I will go back to a top-load machine. It’s my understanding that all new washers are HE now though, right? I’d rather pay a higher water and electricity bill than have my clothes destroyed.

  We have a Bosch FL washer/dryer set, bought them in 2005, survived a few local moves and one cross-country move, 3 years in storage when we moved out of the country and still works great, but the vibration is getting louder the past 2 years. No ruined clothes, although the long sleeve shirts and bed sheets always get tangled.

   I was going to warn against whirlpool! Do your research. We purchased a Cabrio set and it was junk! Put holes in new clothes, scum on clothes no matter how much it was ran thru the washer cleaning cycle. Then it started leaking water on the floor and we didn’t have it long. Pure junk!

  Even top loads are junk nowadays. I bought an HE top load, uses less water. When you take out your clothes from the dryer, they smell funky. I returned it. Now I’m in a hunt for those old school machine in the thrift store. Hope I’ll find one!

  Love my HE top loader (Kenmore), despised my front loader – constant mildew and funk, even though I was bleaching it out frequently during the week and always left the door open to dry out between washes. And it was always clogging. My top loader is only 4 years old but it performs wonderfully and I never get smelly clothes unless I forget and leave them in the washer.

   I have an old Whirlpool, I believe 1998 and it is still working wonderfully! I believe Whirlpool was bought out by another onlinepany , but still uses the name, or maybe that is a diff brand. onlinepanies just dont make high quality merchandise anymore and it’s not all of them, but Whirlpool used to be a very respected brand. I had no idea that their washers/dryers were not being built the same until I’ve read these and other onlinements in the past about it.
   Anyways thanks for the onlinements because they help and here I was looking into a front loader thinking this was the newest/best ones out there, and how I needed to upgrade mine. I was wrong and will do my research!

  I bought the Whirlpool Cabrio 5 years ago. Washer went out this week. Hate this new HE stuff. Only Speed Queen and 1 model of the GE will get you a old fashioned washer. Did lots of research yesterday. Ordered the GE469. Would of done the Speed Queen but only 3.5 cubic feet.
