Air Fryer Mozzarella Cheese Sticks Recipe

yield: 6 SERVINGS

prep time: 60 MINUTES

cook time: 10 MINUTES

total time: 1 HOUR 10 MINUTES

Ingredients

  • 6 mozzarella cheese sticks
  • 1/2 cup seasoned Italian breadcrumbs
  • 1 egg
  • 3 tablespoons milk
  • 1/2 cup flour

Directions

1

Cut mozzarella cheese sticks in half.

2

Place bread crumbs in a bowl. Place flour in a separate bowl. Mix the egg and milk together and put in another bowl.

3

Dip cheese sticks in flour, then egg, and finally bread crumbs.

4

Lay cheese sticks on a cookie sheet and place in freezer for 1-2 hours or until solid.

5

Place breaded sticks in the fry basket, without overcrowding.

6

Optional but yummy: Mist the sticks with some cooking oil so they'll crisp up beautifully.

Set cook time for 10 minutes at 400 degrees. Note: I tried 12 minutes, and mine were a little well done so maybe check at 10 minutes to see if done. (Makes 12 cheese sticks.)

I tried 400 degrees for about 20 minutes and my cheese melted out everywhere. Messy, but still tasty! What do you suggest to prevent my issue? Lower temp? Less time?

    • Amy

I read somewhere to use frozen mozarrella sticks to prevent this from happening.

    • Lina D

Oh darn. I did have one that did that. I read online that starting with frozen cheese sticks may help this. I’m gonna try that next time also!

    • Anna

Try cooking for 10-12 minutes instead of 20. Hope they turn out for you.

Have you tried a low carb version?

    • Lina D

I have not personally tried, but read that almond flour and parm cheese would make a yummy low carb version. 🙂

  3. Dali

What do you use to mist the sticks? I heard that you can’t use cooking spray.

These are so good! I served them with lasagna soup last week when my parents came over. My mom was impressed. Thank you, Lina

I just got a air oven and a ice cream maker and both are working out I don’t know what I would do without either one it’s so fun inventing your own ice cream and air oven recipies for just about anything you can think of

Made these just yesterday for Super Bowl Sunday. Huge hit! Will definitely be making again soon.

I was disappointed that the cheese melted out of the breading. We froze the sticks first for several hours, cooked only for 10 mins at 400. Virtually all the cheese melted out, leaving the breading as hallow as my soul.
