Will buying this now extend the time you already have it for? Just bought kids kindles for Christmas so we’re only 2 months into our free year. Thanks!!

  2. Alexandra

I was wondering the same. I signed up for this deal in January but I’m wondering if I can a) do it again now and b) if it’d extend my subscription.

  3. Kimberly

I don’t think so. It doesn’t give me the option to purchase so probably not. I got the deal in December as well.

  4. Mel

How does everyone like this app? I’m looking for a good educational app for my kids (6 and 4) I’ve tried abc mouse and they are uninterested. Any pros and cons?

I highly reonlinemend the mathseeds and reading eggs program. It is really engaging and set up nicely for them to progress to the next lesson. They usually offer a 2 or 4 week trial before you purchase the program. I have 5 kids and this is the only one they all actually enjoy. None of them ever took to ABC mouse or anything else.

    • Allison

Try readingeggs.online. its a wonderful learning app and much better than ABC mouse in my opinion. My sons charter school uses it. But we also bought a membership for our 5 yr old who is not in school yet. It was $40 a yr. Both my 5 and 7yr use it for both math and reading.

Hooked on Phonics app is about $6 a month and available in the amazon app store. It works! And you don’t need the regular program to use it but I also highly reonlinemend that as well.

If you already have it you can not purchase it again not even for an extension.

I like the app. Love the feature that I can set a time limit and walk away. My 5 yr old is happy with it.

I thought when your free time ran out it was only 2.99 or 3.99 pet no th after. That is the whole reason I purchased the kindle. I didn’t want to pay 15 or more for the apps. Is it because it covers more tablets?

    • Nicole

My one year free subscription ran out this past December. My credit card is automatically billed $9.99 a month now. I too thought it was $2.99 per device but apparently not or not anymore.

We have freetime unlimited & I do think it’s worth it…but if you don’t like the cost, you can use freetime with your own apps(books and videos too) & still set time limits. There are tons of free apps, especially with the Underground section. And watch for free apps of the day.

  8. Molly

Can you get YouTube kids on the kindle?

    • Rebecca

      Yes.

      • Marie

How? Last I looked they didn’t have a real youtube app thru Amazon tablets because that is a onlinepetitor.

        • Kimberly

I had to side load it. I haven’t gone through the steps of putting it on my son’s profile, but it wasn’t too difficult to put it on mine.

is it correct to say that this is only useful while connected to the web? ie? not useful on car rides, right? that’s the only time we use our kindle so I just want to be sure I’m not missing out on something we could make use of. thanks!

    • Rebecca

The vast majority do use Wi-Fi, yes. If you have the ability, when we go on long trips we will get data thru OnStar for one month ($10-20) then cancel.

      • vmm

thanks. I guess we’ll just carryon with our free download apps:) thanks.

    • lreese

My kids use the kindles with Freetime Unlimited on our car trips all the time. You just have to download whatever apps or books you want before leaving. After downloading, most of the apps don’t require WiFi to play them. I think you can download videos as well, but we haven’t tried that.

    • Nicole

My kids use their Kindles in the car. I don’t know the specifics of how it is done but my husband has an iPhone and he can give his wifi to the Kindles. So they have internet access in the car through his phone.

Does anyone know which kid friendly tablet CAN be used in the car??? I was told the Samsung Kids Galaxy Tab E Lite?
    Thanks!

    • Rebecca

Really any can, it all depends on your apps. Look for some that don’t require wifi. You can use Kindles & apps without WiFi, the Freetime unlimited (not regular Freetime) is just set up so it almost requires it.
