   Probably a silly question but…Could an 8 year old learn to play this on his own? My son is asking for one but I don’t know how he would learn how to play without lessons.

  I think so. It would be helpful if he can learn to read music BUT I know people who taught themselves by sound only. My girls can read music BUT because they have taken piano for the past couple years. To play drums in school I know 1 year of piano is required in my area.

  Hope this helps! I think we’re getting one for our almost 13 year old.

  Is the best way to learn to read music by taking classes? I never played an instrument and my husband did but by sound, he couldn’t read the music well. I think I’ll buy it and let him take a shot at it!
