I just want to share this for those who want to reuse the Halloween pumpkin for Christmas for little cost or even no cost if they already have leftover paint. Such a fun project with my 6 and 2 years old.

Here’s my own take on this:

I used sealant, 2-3 layers of acrylic paint, more sealant, then metallic fabric pins to create designs. I initially wanted to do silver and gold, but the paint was awful. I bought two different brands, and they both turned out streaky. The red and white came out fantastically though.

If you’re not crafty and you’ve still got Halloween pumpkins hanging around, You might want to contact your local wildlife center about donating your pumpkin. Some critters love to snack on leftover pumpkin! I donated my carved pumpkins, but I hung onto these uncarved ones for crafting. 🙂

We’ve had deer in our yard eating ours….

What kind of paint is this?

    • Melissa

      Acrylic

Pumpkins rot quickly if you paint them. I tried this before. They are cute tho. Maybe they would last longer if you live in a very cold area.

Yeah, I didn’t know this and bought a cute paint kit with rhinestones at Home Depot last year. It rotted the pumpkin in less than a week. Was gross.

Adorable idea!! I’m sure there are still stores with 75% Halloween decor

    Cute!

  7. Cari

    Yay moldy snowmen!

  8. MellisaB

Clever idea. Maybe I could find the craft plastic ones to decorate and then I could use them for many years. Thanks for the great idea. BTW, both ladies pumpkins look fantastic, great job!

Very cool idea! We have leftover pumpkins and our highs are in the 40’s so no chance of rotting here! Thanks!

I so love that chubby pumpkin snowman!! Such a great idea and here it is already freezing so it should last until it thaws!! Thanks for sharing!!

    So cute

I just turned my pumpkins into turkeys today (stick-in wooden head and feathers), but I love this idea if they last past Thanksgiving!

  13. momo

    Love it!

This is perfect since we had snow on the ground before Halloween here 😕 unfortunately our pumpkins are frozen to the ground.

I did this a few years ago. I used the cheap Walmart spray paint that is a dollar a can. We live in PA so it was cold enough to last for a few weeks.

    Brilliant idea!

Wow, this is great! I love it!
