Calling all Costco Members!

If you’re a Costco member, you may be interested to know that they recently launched their CostcoGrocery Service powered by InstaCart which allows members to receive 2-day delivery on non-perishable food and sundries OR same-day delivery on over 2,000 groceries – including fresh food!

Keep in mind that prices are generally 15% to 17% higher than what you’ll find in your Costco warehouse and an optional 10% service fee will be added to your order at checkout. However, additional tips are not required and you may elect NOT to pay the 10% service fee if you choose.

If you select 2-day delivery, there is no delivery fee on orders of $75 or more. Or, if you choose same-day delivery, there is no delivery fee on orders of $35 or more but fees will apply to orders under $35.

Also, when shopping with CostcoGrocery, you’ll receive the same rewards as when shopping in the warehouse: 2% cash back when you purchase online using the Costco Anywhere Visa Card by Citi, as well as an Executive Membership annual 2% Reward. Go here for more details on CostcoGrocery.

Optional 10% service fee?!?!? What the heck?? Why would you choose to pay an extra 10%????

    • Babs

I have the same question as Sara. ??? is it a tip for their employees who do the gathering/shopping and then also the delivery person?

“Why is there a separate 10% Service Fee at Checkout?
The separate 10% Service fee is used to onlinepensate in-store shoppers as well as delivery drivers. Additional tips are not required and you may elect not to pay the service fee.”

    • Melissa

I work for Instacart as a shopper the service fee does not go to us shoppers, but customers don’t know that so we always try to tell the customer that the service fee is optional and any tip are appreciated!

  2. Julie

Has anyone used Instacart who can offer feedback on it? A lot of people I know use Shipt in my area. So far I have been using Kroger’s Clicklist because I have always been more of a Kroger shopper over Meijer (which offers Shipt in my area). But I love the idea of groceries just being brought to me, especially in the winter months with little ones.

    • Sarah

I have used instacart and love it. I’ve not had any issues with them. Quick delivery and no problems. They will text you if something you order is out at the store and you can choose what to replace it with or whether to simply forgo the item.

In my area, google express has a lot of Costco’s merchandise! I’ve been ordering with them for months. I hate going to Costco πŸ˜‚.

    • Katie

I used Google Express for the last 2 yrs to get Costco items delivered HOWEVER they have recently upped all their prices by $2-4 dollar per item. I’m so frustrated and have onlinepletely stopped using them! If I order 5 items, such as 2 boxes of cereal, 2 boxes of applesauce and goldfish..I pay $16 more than if I walked in the store. Talk about a waste of money. UGH

  4. linda

Disappointing. why’d I pay 17% more plus 10% services fee?
Opt out. Rather drive to Costco myself.

  5. Dirt

The service fee is not a tip and goes straight to instacart. Also it says in the article that additional tip isnt required but i sure hope you tip someone who is running around the store doing all your shopping and delivering it for you.

    • Heather

I sure hope you’re not always so bossy, opinionated, and snarky.

      • Amy

I hope he/she is always opinionated and snarky because I love it.

    • Kelista

Isn’t it their job to run around and pick up items & then deliver it?

      • Kelista

I mean, I have never tipped Amazon, Walmart, Kohl’s….

  6. linda

this only available to area where there’s Costco stores present.
    so what’s the point?
for 17%+ more I’d rather go to store myself.

I think only being forced to use online order to pay more when there’s no Costco nearby.

  7. Scudworth

They’ll get my business if they’ll deliver a hot dog and a soda to my house for $1.50. Shoot, I’d pay the 17% premium for that! 😜

    • Kendra

      Yes! Me too! πŸ˜‚

  8. Lora

Convenience onlinees at a cost. For some people, the additional fee is worth it.

  9. poopdiva14

costco is awesome. but i still want to pick out the best avocados and tomatos myself. id rather go to the store. the experience of going to the store and shooping with trained reps is what its all about.

As of August 28, 2020: Instacart’s markup is around 20% over the the Costco in-store price and they add about 6% over the in-store total (5% over the markup total) as tip to the delivery person. You can change tip amount. Expect to pay about 26% more than what you’d pay in-store. I purchased via https://sameday.costco.online/.
