I don’t know if this will be around again this year but these went on black Friday sale last year for 88$, I also noticed many left over when Christmas was over and they were clearanced out to 44$. It is high quality and I would much rather have this than some of the cheap plastic barbie ones. It is huge. I am 5’5 and this is as tall as I am. The stairs are a pain in the butt they fall off super easy. My daughter hardly touched it in the past year and so the trash it went. This for me was an impulse buy that I thought my only girl had to have (I have 3 boys) it ended up being a waste of money for me and it takes up a lot of space. Oh yeah, it onlinees in a million pieces. Be sure you have an entire adternoon set aside to build it.
Ha! I feel like I’ve spent more time building and picking up (all the accessories)for these “big ticket items,” than my kids have spent time playing with…I swear, they must do this on purpose!!
Same. I refuse to buy toys that onlinee in lots of pieces like those hot wheel toys and train sets, and marvel housing toys. They fall apart and my kids take them apart and they get every where. They forget about them until i rebuild and then they destroy again. I did a massive overhaul of my kids toys this past year. I used to buy all the great clearance but soon realized I may be saving money, but on things my kids weren’t even into. I still shop for sales but I am way more picky now. I buy what I know my kids will like and I don’t over do it anymore. My 9 year old son discovered how much he likes to read and they play more outside. There is a lot of hide and seek going on in my house and a lot more imagination. This year I am doing the Christmas poem: something you need, want, wear, and read. I am going to add something you share and something you give. That way they think of what they really want and not just silly junk. I’m sorry but when children start trashing things it shows how little they appreciate it. Now my kids appreciate what they have more. I am still working on down sizing. they still have way more than they need.
I have 5 kids. It is horrible at Christmas time. Family members get them all a bunch of stuff. I’d rather them give money for the kids college then gifts. But I have learned very slowly. That don’t buy stuff new to store for gift closet or up onlineing birthdays or holidays. Garage sales are our friends. .25 cent toys are ok to buy because they won’t hurt when you toss them away. The kids can play with them even if just one day and .25 is not a lot to worry about. Garage sales are great for books. If a library book is lost they charge full replacement price. Garage sales sell them for .25 to $1 a book.
I get what you are saying but I usually have the opposite experience with yard sales. Yes, sometimes you stumble on a great deal but I find that we end up with weird junky stuff. I try to buy only high-quality toys on clearance that I’m confident my kids would like so that if they don’t, I’m confident that I could sell them for more than I paid. Actually, I’m often able to get a good return on stuff they have played with but have outgrown. I have one of these castles that I paid $30 for and probably no longer need. I’m sure I could easily get $60 on Craigslist or even more at consignment. I bought a wooden Circo kitchen for $12 and ended getting a Kidkraft one later that I preferred and the Circo one sold for $50. It takes discipline but I never have huge Christmas bills and my kids get some of what they want as well as fun surprises I think they’ll enjoy.
I agree. Any toy that onlinees with lots of pieces all end up breaking apart and they are everywhere around the house. I got a barbie house for my daughter and they came with lots of pieces. They all got lost or came off and she broke it etc. i threw the whole thing away since she only played around the time she got it and it has been sitting. I am also doing one big toy that she really wants plus books, clothing and other necessities. My daughter still has couple boxes of gifts that is new from last christmas.

Oh, by threw away I hope it was put out by the curb for takers. Plastic Junk toys can be recycled. I just found out our area collects plastic #5 for .55c per pound. As well as many other plastics!
Hmmm brainstorming. maybe schools/organizations could collect plastic along with aluminum cans to raise money. Garbage for some Money for others 🙂
It is not plastic, so no I did not recycle and I am not sure if my area does. By throw away I mean I threw it away. I could have sold it or given it away, but I was overwhelmed and I just trashed it. Besides the stairs and plastic doors were torn off and all the furniture pieces were torn apart. I do a great deal of donating every year and I am pretty sure one doll house won’t do any harm.
I hate when people throw stuff away that could be reused. I get stuff all the time from the trash. Bikes, scooters, pedestal sinks, all kinds of furniture. I rescue it moments before the trash truck takes it. I got an inflatable bounce house, it was the water kind it was like new worked fine. That was from a house that had just sold. I have no idea why they did not do curb alert on craigs list. I wish people only bought what they needed and did not trash things that could be reused, I wish people recycled more. Very very little should go to the trash. I wish we could pass a clean planet to our children.

I purchased this at Kohls on a walmart price match for $63 after my 15% off coupon. However I still have not given it to my youngest daughter since she was 2 at the time. Then I picked up the Frozen one from Kohls on clearance last month… Yes they are big but really it depends on the kid if it is a waste of money or space…My 15 year old still gets out her Princess house that I had to go and get on Black Friday from the Disney Store (it is huge and was a pain to get out of the mall). She gets it our and plays with her 3 year old sister. I asked her if her baby sister could have it and she said “No I’m saving it for my kids someday”… So I’m really hoping that my 3 year old will love this next Christmas…
We do not have this one, but we do have a larger 4 sided spinning Kidkraft one. The Kidkraft ones are so nice. They are so much better than the plastic ones. I am pretty sure we will have ours forever as my girls, too, will never let me give it away.
I agree that it depends on the child. My 6-year-old daughter has a kidkraft dollhouse that we got her 2 years ago. That is one of the many toys she plays with on a daily basis still to this day. My 8-year-old son couldn’t care less about toys. Lol. Every child (and their interests) is different. 😊
I was lucky enough to snag this dollhouse in Jan. at the Walmart clearance for $20.00. It does take some time to assemble, but it is much better quality then the plastic Barbie or Monster High dollhouses, and it is also very large. I purchased the Monster High one for 89.00 this past Christmas, and that is very cheap & flimsy-definitely regret that purchase!
This kidkraft dollhouse is far superior to the plastic ones. If you have a child that loves playing with dollhouses this is for you! If your not so sure and were planning as a gift, you could wait for possibility of better price. My girls don’t play with their dollhouses much at all, I thought they would much more.
This dollhouse is such a pain! The actual house is pretty well made but the furniture and stairs are junk. You’ll spend a lot of time putting it all back together before you decide to toss pieces for being broken or annoying

I bought this in Black Friday last year for my 3 year old twins. They literally play with it every day. Sad to hear others have not gotten that same reaction from their kids. Also, my girls are VERY hard on their toys and they still have all their pieces to this castle! It is very well made. Well worth the money for us 🙂
We had the same issue with the stairs I didn’t read about it until after I purchased it but it was so annoying I had to go look at reviews to see if either people mentioned it and it was mentioned a lot. I don’t understand why they keep making a toy wear something break so easily , especially one that otherwise is good quality and cost a lot of money. In the onlineplaints about the stairs went back couple of years.
I picked up this doll house along with the Cinderella horse and carriage after Christmas at my local Walmart. Paid $30 for the castle and 15 for the horse and pumpkin ride. Have held it all this time in my basement for my 5 yr old daughter. She loves any type of princess and I hope that she goes crazy over this purchase. I also picked up the large batman house for $25 for my nephews. Happy Deal Shopping everyone!
