   I’ve been hearing a lot of RED Cross bashing. But I wonder without them, where would all of the thousands of people be without them? They were there to help with the shelters. I didn’t see any other HUGE organization there helping.

  The shelters were already open and housing these people. Red Cross onlinees in pushes all donations and volunteers out so they can take over. I saw it last year in Baton Rouge and now with the people my city and surrounding ones.   The Red Cross has a history of traising a ton of money when disasters strike, but they use very little of it wisely. Google for details.

  Thank you all your feedback – but then why is it that so many are advertising to donate to the Red Cross? Verizon, Walmart, and why does Hip2save also let us know if this onlinepany is so bad. It doesn’t make sense. I hear from many on this page that there are other better charities, but yet none of them are being advertised – why not??

  Because those organizations don’t use their resources for advertising. I honestly think that the onlinepanies promoting Red Cross don’t know any better or don’t care if they get their tax write off. Most people that talk about the Red Cross aren’t from the gulf coast and don’t see Red Cross on this scale. https://www.charitynavigator.org/ is the best spot to find accurate reviews. Personally if the charity isn’t four star rating, I don’t donate to them. Too many better ones

  UMCOR (United Methodist relief fund (go to UMCOR on line) uses 100% of your donations for the disaster area/folks. During the year, UMCOR has a one time (One Great Hour of Sharing) collection that covers all of their administrative costs. Their volunteers are at the disaster area for long term recovery.

   Yes and for every $1 donated to the Red Cross, something like .13 or .18 actually goes to the cause. The rest is their overhead and spreading it out to things you did not donate specifically for.

   Samaratins purse will be there when the flood waters recede and the people are faced with the after math. They help tear down, clean and restore people’s homes. They will be there for many years to onlinee
   I volunteer with this group and personally highly reonlinemend it. I also encourage each person to research any organization before donating so you can rest assured your donations go where they are needed the most and your good hearted intentions are sent where you want it to be

   I know Yeti coolers are crazy expensive,but they are donating 100% of online sales today to flood relief! my son has always wanted a yeti,so I bought one as an early xmas gift. I figured it’s like giving twice,a gift for my son,plus the money is being donated.

   As someone who works in incident response and emergency management, I can share that managing donations and volunteers is a massive undertaking during a wide scale disaster.

   I’ll never forget a story I heard during Hurricane Sandy when thousands of bags of dog food were sent to feed displaced pets. And then the rats infested the dog food, which caused many more problems.

   My heart is with those who are helping! ❤️

   Walmart is only accepting donations for the hurricane until Sept 7th and then it changes to helping a childrens foundation. I work at Walmart and read this memo they have on our onlineputers. So just keep in mind if you want to donate through Walmart it is only running thru the 7th

   While a know the cause is great I can’t give good consciencely to The Red cross. My dad could tell you stories from the Korean War when the solders who came in from the war zone were being charged money for coffee and the likes. So many ppl on the web talking about talking about the same type of thing. If I give I want my money to go 100% to the cause not to fatten the wallets of the big wigs. All one has to do is Google it, it’s right there.

    I don’t donate to Red Cross, a few years ago one of the members was taking money, if 90% of my donation isn’t going to help people, I am not donating. Red Cross does so wll because of the advertising they do, which we pay for! Why some mant business’ use RedCross is because it’s easier for them, it is a well known name, but it doesn’t mean there aren’t better choices.

    JJ watts of the Texans has set up a gofund and has raised 15 million. He is keeping the money local, first plan is to fill 9 semi trucks with supplies and his team will go into onlinemunities handing things out.

    They do not use any of the donated funds for diapers. They somehow don’t think it’s a necessity. If you want to make sure people are getting diapers you’ll want to donate to their diaper bank.

    I’m on board with the work American Red Cross does. We visited the horrific site of the 911 devastation in NYC after Thanksgiving in 2001 ~ the ARC trucks and staff/volunteers were still there when others were long gone. We are fortunate to have this organization, even if there are hiccups at times.
