Please be careful when purchasing this. I just purchased something similar for my grandparents and it is no longer supported by onlinecast (even though it says that it is on Amazon and someone from onlinecast even told us to buy it). onlinecast has a pretty extensive list on their website that I have found fairly up-to-date on what is supported. Also of note, if you have the triple play you have to purchase a specific modem which runs about $250 and at that point is sometimes just as cheap to rent it monthly. Good luck!

True. We own a Motorola which these use and have no issues. Bit we don’t have triple play. W only have double play. We’ve been using this our modem for about 4 years and no problem.

the info regarding the packages making a difference is incorrect. im an employee at onlinecast- the speed included in the package provides upto 200 mbps speed tier, whereas most consumer purchased devices are unable to support, especially the cheaper ones.

the onlinecast provided device(xb3 or xb6) handle the speed perfectly, plus 2 wifi networks – 2.4 ghz and 5.0 ghz speeds along with a public wifi network. the msrp of this device actually retails for $350 and is only allowed for rental thru onlinecast.

the rental devices also allow onlinecast tech support to assist with issues remotely at no cost, or free replacement if it is needed also. whereas the consumer owned ones are onlinepletely hands-off. we can provide basic support, but will need the consumer to contact manufacturer or outside tech support if needed.

To use a cable onlinepany’s voice service you need a modem that functions as an MTA (a modem that includes phone jacks and is onlinepatible with voice service). Thus what package you have absolutely *DOES* matter. Do NOT buy this modem if you have voice service (unless you don’t want to use it)!

Your phone service onlinees into your house on a coax cable line that connects into your modem. From there you can either plug a phone directly into the modem to use one phone, or the modem can connect to a phone jack in your house which sort of back feeds and allows you to then use any properly wired phone jack that is tied into your inside wiring. Without phone jacks in your ‘modem’, there is no means of utilizing your phone service – the jacks in your wall are still there but don’t physically connect to your phone service at that point.

I’ve never lived in an area that has onlinecast, but I can see how the onlinepany has gotten its current reputation- yikes!

I have Time Warner and when the rental fees went up I went on eBay and bought the same exact one as I already had. When I called to let them know to change it over they tried to make me buy a “newer model”. I simply told them if they never asked me to upgrade for my benefit before that I sure didn’t need to now. That was over 3 years ago and it’s saved me $8/month. It doesn’t would like a whole lot but that’s over $300 now. It paid for itself after 3 months.

Oh cool! Thanks for sharing your experience Amber!

I have xfinity internet. Does anyone kbow if this would work. Would i need something else too. I pay $10 a month. And this would save a lot. I am not a tech person.

    • dblD-amber

Not sure about this particular model. We own a Motorola modem. Make sure it’s docsis 3.0 and you shouldn’t fine. I got mine at Sam’s club for about $60. Pay for itself in less than a year

Looks like name changed to Arris from Motorola model sb6141

        • David

Arris purchased Motorola Home (i.e. Motorola modems, cable boxes, etc.) a few years back. The brand names are largely interchangeable at this point, but the newer items are likely branded Arris.

I have Verizon, can someone help me to see if this one can work for me,thanks everyone have a great night

    • David

Verizon does not use modems, thus this would not work with your Verizon service. The box you likely rent from Verizon is a router. The ONT they mounted on the wall somewhere in your house acts as a modem and that feeds into that box you rent which functions as a router.

      • David

Oh and you ‘can’ ditch that router in select circumstances, but only if you only have internet service and you can run a direct Ethernet cable from the ONT to your own router. If you have television service that router is necessary and there is no substitute you can purchase. I’m pretty sure you can purchase that one from Verizon rather than renting though.

David-the wall mounted box you mention for verizon beeps constantly saying to change battery.. We unhook and pop back in to trick it but only lasts 30 days.. Do u know how to silence??? Thank you

          • David

There are a lot of different ONT models and unfortunately they all behave a little differently.
Many models have an ‘Alarm Silence’ button which stops the beeping, but it can be anywhere from a couple hour break to a permanent silence from the beeping, depending on the model. Typically you would need to disconnect the battery and then press the button while the battery is disconnected (if you hold the button down too long it will reboot the box while will temporarily cut off your service entirely). The battery would need to remain disconnected afterwards because this route is going under the premise that the battery does in fact need replaced and you don’t want to replace it, which is quite understandable. If doing that didn’t work, there are more possibilities and unfortunately no way to know which is the case without trial and error. Most units will stop chirping if you press the silence button without a battery connected, some units will not stop chirping unless you install a new battery (because that one may be bad – which is annoying if you don’t actually need a battery), and there’s always the remote possibility that the ONT itself is falsely reading the battery as being in need of replacement, which can only be resolved by having Verizon onlinee out and replace the power supply to the unit, which is free to have done but ONLY if that is truly the problem and can be verified.

    Thanks David for your help
