Sam’s Club shoppers – skip the checkout lines!

If you don’t like waiting in the checkout line to pay, you may want to download Sam’s Club’s new Scan and Go App (for iOS or Android devices). This app allows members to scan items as you’re adding them to your cart AND then pay directly via the mobile app… NO standing in any checkout lanes!

Then, after you’ve paid and your transaction is onlineplete, just show the e-receipt barcode on your mobile phone to a greeter standing by the door and you are on your way! Easy peasy!

My DIY & Recipe sidekick, Lina, downloaded the Sam’s Club Scan & Go app and said it was super easy to use and she loved being able to bypass the checkout lane and head right to the door afterwards!

I was at my local Sam’s club on Saturday and they had an offer when you purchase certain items you could earn $10 off your next order if you used their scan and pay app.

    • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

Sweet offer! Thanks for sharing Rachel!

    • Jenny

Where did you get this deal?

      • Shell

My Sam’s handed me a flyer last week when I went it. But I didn’t need all the stuff listed so didn’t use the$10.

  2. Laura

I LOVE this app! While everyone is standing in long lines in ours-I’m done shopping an out the door! 😁

    • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

Awesome to hear how convenient it has been for you Laura! Thanks for sharing your experience!

  3. katttro

I wonder what you do with items you have to weigh, and how the store makes sure you scanned everything…

    • Rachel

      Nothing gets weighs at Sams

    • Melinda

Just like they check the receipt. There is a list on the barcode they scan and they count the items. I haven’t noticed any item that requires a weight. The weight is usually in the barcode.

    • mel

At my store, the person standing at the door counts your items, so your receipt total has to match the items in your cart (ie if you have 20 items, and your receipt says 18, they’ll pull you aside to figure out)

  4. Melinda

We love the scan and go app been using it a few months now! Our Sam’s gets really busy and this is so helpful. In and out with ease.

    • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

Super glad to hear how much you have liked it Melinda! Thanks for the feedback!

  5. Brandy Tate

I’ve been using this for a while and I love it even though there are items you can’t buy via the app like beer and more than likely the items are sold by weight

  6. Laura

I’ve been using this app for months- love it!

    • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

      Awesome! Thanks for sharing Laura!

  7. Kristi

I love this app! When shopping with kids, I can skip the checkout lines and just leave! It’s great!
The only thing you can’t use it on is alcohol.

  8. dblD_amber

So convenient. My kids always laugh ad we walk right out while others sit in those long lines.

  9. Gigi

Love this app. Have been using it for months! It was a huge timesaver during the holidays!

    • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

Good to know how helpful it is! Thanks for the great review!

  10. eyez

    love it….i don’t think i’ll ever stand in line again : )

  11. Ger

LOVE checking out with SCAN & GO!!! I usually start scanning while I’m putting items in my cart!!! You can always go back & remove any items if you change your mind prior to checking out. I’ll have cart full of stuff & I just hit pay…Then go!!! Skipping everybody in line! Lol 😍😜

  12. Aria

I am going to have to try this out!

  13. Lisa

I’m going to have to try this. Hating standing in those long lines at Sam’s.

  14. Tera B

I’ve been using this app also and really like it. Seems like the check-out lines are always super long at our Sam’s Club. I scan the items as I put them in my cart–it’s really easy to delete items if you change your mind. The one thing I don’t like is you can’t use gift cards to pay (or if you can, I haven’t figured it out yet). I sometimes cash in my swagbucks for Sam’s gift cards…so I’ll either have to use those online for instore pick-up, or *gasp* stand in line.

    • LaRie

You answered my question about the gift cards! Thank you.

  15. Marie

I love this App!!!!! LOOOOOVE it!

  16. SJ

I like this! It’s great for me who loses all sense of my budget when I walk into bulk stores haha you can see your total as you go

    • Laura W

      Exactly!!! LOL!! 😄

  17. Sheila

I’ve also been using this for a long time and LOVE it!

    • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

Happy to hear you have been enjoying the app Sheila! Thanks for the feedback!

  18. Angela

Someone last week was looking for a Chase Bank Coupon Code for a new bank account I have one I am not going to use: TX2224737K2YR9NN

  19. Curt

If your Sams is like mine, many items are regularly mispriced. This app is an easy way to quickly realize the store got it wrong so I can just put it back on the shelf and move on with my purchases.

  20. Bonnie

I like the idea, but there will be less people working if everyone uses an app instead of a checkout. I feel the same way about self checkouts at the grocery store. Less people checking out means fewer jobs.

    • Kris

Agree. I feel like my store purposely only has 3 lines open at a time to make the lines longer. Costco on the other had has at least 15 lines open.

    • Mourrene

Good point but it’s almost like there aren’t many people working anyway because they have so few registers open.

    • Freedom

I’ve seen several onlinements to this affect. Along with replies by Sam’s club workers.
They said they are actually hiring more workers. And workers are being better utilized in other areas.
      No job loss.

    • Sue

My kroger has every single checkout lane open during peak hours. There is hardly ever a line. Usually we just walk up. If there ever is a line it is one person deep.

    • Stephanie

I enjoy scanning and bagging my own things. When it onlinees to bagging I’d much rather do it myself. If the option was there to scan my items at Costco I would do it in a minute.

  21. Savvysaver

I love using the app! I’m usually only buying a few items anyway so skipping the line works for me! Oh, there will still be a need for cashiers because some people would rather stand in line than use an app, some may not even have smart phones, and there is also a limit and there are several who spend thousands at a time. So, no worries there!

  22. Cristine

This is almost enough reason for me to open my SAMs account again!

    • AP

I was just clicking the EXACT same thing. 🙂

  23. Katherine

Im not sure I trust using Sams free wifi with my credit card info. Its available to everyone and not secure.
Can I use my mobile data? Or does it have to be Sams wifi?

    • Ronda

I love this app. It is so convenient and easy to use. I never use wifi while in Sam’s. For me, anytime I use a store wifi, it seems to be much slower than just using cellular.

    • Laura W

Absolutely! You can definitely use your mobile data.

    • eyez

i never use their wifi but u have to turn on your location for them to locate your nearest store

  24. wench1109

    This sounds great!
My parents shop at Sams and my mom is on oxygen and uses a scooter.
She is able to be out and about but after doing a Sams run she usually is a bit tired.

  25. Luv 🌺

Is there away to take something off after scanning? For example scanned a bag of chips but then later remember that there’s still some at home, is there a way to remove it from your list before checking out? I don’t have the app yet but thinking about it. Thanks in advance 🌺

    • lisag29

Yes, it is very easy to remove an item after adding it. Sometimes I will scan something just to see the price and then remove it if I don’t want it.

      • Luv 🌺

        Thank you. 🌺

  26. Beth

The app is great – it saved me tons of time around Christmas especially and I have stopped by a couple times when I didn’t have my wallet and just paid with it! I love it!

A couple things it doesn’t work for: online photos that you still have to pay for and recently reduced clearance items that a cashier might have to key in themselves. Also if you want to buy alcohol.

  27. Sarah

Thank you for letting us know about this!! This will certainly be a time saver!!

    • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

      You’re very welonlinee Sarah!

  28. dee

I have used this app several times and I love it. The only downside of Sams is the checkout lines and they took that away!!

    • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

Awesome! Thanks for the review Dee! We sure do appreciate it!

  29. Julie

Love the app. Note that if you are buying wine or other 21+ item they wouldn’t let me use the app. Also if you are doing something that needs the receipt like the box top for education thing they did not accept the app screen grab….

  30. Kristi

I love this app! I’ve been using it for a couple of months, and with four kids, every line I can bypass is a life saver!

  31. Deanna

I use it as a price checker sometimes!

    • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

      Sweet!

  32. Nl

    Nooooo people need these jobs

  33. jillyswish

This app is awesome!! The only bad thing though is I don’t believe you can use ibotta with this. I think you need a printed receipt.

    • Erica

I don’t know about using Ibotta, but I do print out my receipts from the app.I need to print them when I buy items for work. It prints the items and a barcode. HTH!

      • mel

For Ibotta, you need to submit the actual store receipt, they will not accept a onlineputer printout.

        • Sheila

I’ve printed my receipt from Scan and Go and used it with Ibotta before.

          • mel

Wonder if they changed it then? I did a scan & go a few months ago and my receipt was denied. Said they don’t accept onlineputer generated printouts, has to be a scan of the actual receipt from the register.

    • Mary (Stellar Sidekick)

Hi Jill! I was actually able to use Ibotta with my Scan & Go transaction just fine yesterday! You can print your receipt directly from the app (it printed better by emailing it to myself than printing straight from my phone) and then just scan the barcode when submitting. I also was able to use it for Checkout 51 as well! Hope that helps! 🙂

  34. Laura

I love this app! We use it every time now! So convenient, literally just Scan and Go!

  35. Gina

I’ve been using the Scan & Go app for the last couple of months and I LOVE it!! It is great, you can do price checks (without tracking down an associate) as well as checking out.

I have just two words for those of you who are on the fence…. BLACK FRIDAY!!!! 😊

  36. Betty

I can be in and out in just a few minutes now and I know exactly how much I spent before I check out. I wish Walmart would do it too!

  37. maria

Best app ever!!!! In and out of the store in no time.

  38. Freedom

    Absolutely love this app.
    Quick and easy.
Use it everytime we go to Sam’s. Skip the lines.

  39. Renee

What I’m worried about is…is it easy to deceive them by switching cheap item after scanning with different expensive item? You say that worker at door just counts number of items?

    • hnaim

Maybe. But other than counting, they are also there to check if we have the right stuff in our cart. That is why they are there for or else we can just go out without anyone checking since we have already payed.

  40. hnaim

    Love it!

  41. Jenn

    I love this app too!!!

  42. Shell

Yes! BlackFriday was a breeze using this app! That’s how long I’ve been using scan and go. I did notice no one even counts the items at the door at my Sam’s. I think it’s partly because they usually are older and the technology alone throws them for a loop and having to switch to a handheld thing to scan and they forget to count. Lol! Just hope all the unhonest people don’t ruin the convenience for the rest of us.

  43. Nory

I love the scan and go app at Sam’s. I usually don’t run into problems at the exit when the greeter can count good. But there have been couple of times when the greeter just counts the number of items without looking at the count for each item. For example, I purchased 2 eggs along with few other items yesterday and the total number of items was 13. At the exit, greeter counted all the other items, but kept insisting that I have to pay for the egg. I had to count it again with her and told her that it says “2” under the item for egg. You may run into issues like this but it’s usually very fast and good.

  44. YG

I used gc I earned from swagbucks to shop at sams all the time. Does the app take gc payment?

    • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

No. The app does not accept gift cards as payment. Bummer!

  45. Terrie Swanson

I loved this app and used it constantly. Never a problem with quantity or weight issues. For those that don’t know, the greeter has to scan your phone at the door and it allows you to onlineplete your receipt and go out the door. Then one day, they can’t get it to work. Finally, after many tries, I get my receipt finalized. The next week the same thing happened. I was told by management, no less, that I have to go back into the store to the register to get a wifi signal. Still nothing. Then she tells me to go to the other side of the registers. I refused. She said they didn’t have wifi and it couldn’t pick up on their end. She apologize, acted like it was a random thing and did an override on my receipt to get me out the door. The next week, it happened again! Until this had started, I had not experienced anything like this. Again, they started apologizing like it had never happened before. My husband called them on it. At first they kept insisting it had never happened but finally admitted it had because once again, they couldn’t get wifi to connect with my phone. I hope this was just with this one Sam’s store in Hickory, NC and they are just too cheap to purchase good wifi. I noticed that now they are not allowing the Sam’s personnel at the self checkout registers to approve your receipts but you must go through the wait line like everyone else. If BJ’s weren’t so far away, I would let my Sam’s membership go.

    • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

Thanks so much for sharing your experience! Sorry to hear the wifi at your store has been creating issues!

  46. Tony S.

I HATE using this app. Everytime I do, whenever I leave the store, I have to clean the screen of the big YELLOW
mark down the middle. Makes looking at the screen almost impossible! 😉

  47. Stephanie

What if you use your paper receipts for other apps like Ibotta? Is there an option to get a printed receipt too?

    • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

Yes! You can print out your receipt to use for Ibotta!. A few other readers have had success using Ibotta with the printed receipt. Hope this helps!

  48. Tina W

My husband and I have used this app once and we really liked it. We just don’t shop at Sam’s that much but it might encourage me to shop more. The day we used it, the store was PACKED and we would have been in line forever. Our store also has a person at the door who just counts your items and verifies your receipt. My husband especially loved it. He was like a little kid playing grocery store. LOL

  49. Sam

My husband hates going shopping, but since I started using this app a few months ago I can get him to go to Sam’s with me since he doesn’t have to stand in line! Love scan and go!
