Create a DIY cupcakes bouquet in under 15 minutes using mini cupcakes, a large coffee mug, and a few easy craft supplies!

Looking for a creative handmade gift to brighten someone’s day?

These mini cupcake bouquets are so adorable and easier than you’d think to make! I just used store-bought mini cupcakes, but you could certainly bake and decorate your own if desired using mini muffin pans.

This simple DIY project would make a great Valentine for someone special, but it could easily be customized to celebrate a number of different occasions! You can finish it with clear cellophane wrap and a ribbon so that it’s packaged nicely for delivery.

Helpful tips for making DIY mini cupcake flower bouquets:

  • I was able to buy all of these supplies at Walmart, including the mini cupcakes from their bakery! While in-store, I made sure that the styrofoam ball I bought fit super tight in the cup. This made the finished product sturdy and easy to transport in the car without any cupcakes falling off. Yay!
  • The coffee mugs I used are no longer available, but any seasonal mug or one of these Pioneer Woman mugs would make such a pretty alternative.
  • You could skip the coffee mug altogether and use a small flower pot or a decorative bowl instead. I think this project would turn out great either way!
  • If you have blank spaces in between cupcakes, use additional tissue paper to cover them!

Directions

1

Pick a coffee mug large enough for your styrofoam ball (or a half ball) to fit snugly inside so it won’t move around.

2

Place styrofoam ball on top of a couple of squares of green tissue paper and press down into the mug.

3

Press a toothpick down into the styrofoam ball on one side, but make sure it still points upward somewhat so the cupcake won’t slide off.

4

Press a cupcake on top of the toothpick. Be careful that the toothpick doesn’t poke all the way through.

5

Continue the process around the side and in the middle.

6

Add additional pieces of tissue paper around the sides, if desired. That’s it!

easy mini cupcake bouquet gift

I LOVE how these adorable DIY cupcake bouquets turned out, and also how simple they were for me to assemble. Best of all, I was able to get everything I needed with just one trip to one store. Walmart for the win! 🙌

These would be so cute as a thoughtful gift for Valentine’s Day, Mother’s Day, or Teacher Appreciation. My daughter gave the ones we made to her teachers, and they were a big hit!

I love that they could also do triple duty when used as inexpensive centerpieces at small gatherings, like a shower or birthday party.

This handwritten canvas idea makes for a beautiful custom gift!

    • Lina D (Hip2Save Sidekick)

You can wrap it with clear gift basket wrapping maybe!

  2. Lori

    So cute! Thanks for idea.

  3. olivia

I would maybe suggest putting a cellophane bag or wrap over the finished product and give it to the person the same day.

    • Lina D (Hip2Save Sidekick)

YES! So smart! I was just thinking that too!

  4. Jody Paul

Cute but with Covid you have to have those things wrapped

    • Diana

I make these all the time. They’re a best seller! Hip2Save is going to put my side hustle out of business 🙁 Just a quick tip- use squares of tissue paper to fill in the gaps between each individual cupcake. You could use 2 tissue paper squares under each individual cupcake so they stick up around the cupcake enough to fill in the gaps between each cupcake. You could also just get a square of tissue paper and twist the middle of it (like you would do to make a gift bag look more decorative) and hot glue it to the tip of a toothpick and stick those in between the cupcakes to fill in the gaps. I buy my cups/pots/vases from yard sales, thrift stores, or regular stores if they are under a dollar. I NEVER pay more than a dollar for them. Sometimes I get the cup/pot/vase back so I get to reuse it. If you want to go above and beyond with decoration you can use rice paper bees placed directly on the cupcakes or you can use bee cutouts printed on regular paper. If you use regular paper for the bees I would suggest gluing them securely to the tissue paper.

U can make these with Lollypops the clear ones. They onlinee out super cute with cherry and vanilla flavored colors and no need to worry about clear wrapping. Even though they look cuter with the wrap and a ribbon!

    • Lina D (Hip2Save Sidekick)

So fun! Thanks for sharing Lisa!

    • Nadia

      Do you have a picture

  8. Lisa G

    I love this! Thanks!

    • Lina D (Hip2Save Sidekick)

      Thanks Lisa!

  9. yolanda cavo

So stupid question. Does the toothpick go thru the cupcake? Or are they on each side?

    • Mommaof8(almost 9)

Not a stupid question- that’s how you learn. The toothpick goes partly in the styrofoam ball and partly in the cupcake to hold them together. PS the toothpick should not go all the way through the cupcake

  10. Teresa Duncan

Do you not glue the styrofoam in the container?

    • Lina D (Hip2Save Sidekick)

I do not, no. And the weight of the cupcakes kept it down just fine.

  11. Couponanimal

Such a cute idea!! My daughter and I bake for my husband’s staff all the time. What a fun project for us to do together! Thanks for the idea!

    • Lina D (Hip2Save Sidekick)

      Oh yes! How neat!

  12. Susan

So cute. Thanks for the great idea! ❤️

  13. Sharon B.

Love this! Am pinning- thanks for posting this great and creative idea 🙂

    • Lina D (Hip2Save Sidekick)

      Thanks Sharon!!

  14. Doreen

Love this idea, but does the arrangement ever tip over due to weight on top?

    • Jessica (Hip Sidekick)

Hi Doreen! For this idea, Lina used mini cupcakes, so the weight of the cup was much heavier than the cupcakes going on top. 🤗
