Happy Friday: Family Gratitude Board
Sent from reader, Hannah:
Hi Collin &Hip2Save team! Recently my husband and I decided to tackle the issue of entitlement in our society by making an intentional effort to raise our kids to be grateful and hard working. Our kids are 3 1/2 and almost 2, so we are starting while they are young.
Every night we have family time with our gratitude board. We take turns saying what we are grateful for and who/what we want to pray for. We also check off our daily chores for the kids on the board.
It has been such a joy to have this daily time to hear my children express what they are thankful for and to hear them think of other people’s needs for their prayer requests.
We want our kids to grow up learning how to work for money, save money, give, and spend wisely. Our children are very young, but they are actually eager and excited to onlineplete their chores, get paid at the end of the week, and take their own money on our Target shopping trips. Our 3 1/2 year old is responsible for making his bed, wiping the table after meals, and putting his laundry away. Our almost 2 year old is responsible for feeding our dog (Digger). They can also earn extra money by doing other extra jobs around the house. It is our goal for our children to grow up to be debt free adults, so I am excited to start teaching them to be money smart while they are so young.
I also record our weekly memorization Bible verse on the board. My son memorized verses for church on Wednesday night, so we practice the verse every night during our family time.
I purchased the dry erase calendar board from Target during the back to school clearance sale for $5. I found the magnets and magnetic marker holder with eraser and markers at Staples on clearance for $1 and $2.
I hope this helps other parents be inspired to start tackling the issue of entitlement within their own family with a focus on gratitude, work ethic, and money wisdom.
HAPPY FRIDAY!
