Tips for making this skillet cookie recipe:

  • This recipe works best in an 8 or 9-inch oven-proof skillet. Today I used my scratch-resistant 8-inch HexClad skillet, and love the results. I have also used a cast iron skillet before too.
  • Feel free to create similar versions with other add-ins. Walnuts would have been great in this cookie. Next time we will make a yummy M&Ms version by adding candy instead of chocolate chips.
  • If your oven runs hotter than usual, be sure to keep on eye on this as it’s best when slightly under cooked and soft!

Learning how to make a skillet cookie is super EASY!

Instead of rolling individual chocolate chip cookies, this is the way to go! My teen daughter and her friends made this chocolate chip skillet cookie for a recent sleepover and told me she was surprised at how simple this process is. Baking a skillet cookie and adding ice cream is a perfect late-night dessert to share with friends. YUM

So off topic a bit but how do you clean a cast iron skillet? I’ve tried different things and it’s just not working. BTW Lina this looks amazing and will try it once I get it cleaned.

  9. lisa

This is the only reason why I keep my cast iron skillet 🙂

Funny. I was onlineing to say I just clipped this from Martha Stewart magazine. Everyone has been running cast iron skillet dessert recipes. Strange how it goes in cycles. A few years ago, it was cast iron skillet Dutch baby recipes everywhere.

    • Lina (Hip's Modern Martha)

      • Vivian

  12. Jennifer

This sounds so good right now! We made something similar, put a pie pan, and put it on the grill while we were on a camping trip! Then topped it with ice cream of course. Great idea, thanks Lina!

  16. Sara

Off topic… But someone asked how to clean a skillet… I would like to ask how to clean a ceramic fry pan? I got marks of cooking all over my white ceramic pan 🙁

    • Bunny

      Hi Sara,

      I found this online….hope it’s helpful to you 🙂

      https://healthy-cookware.online/take-care-of-your-ceramic-coated-cookware/

      Always Hand Wash Ceramic-Coated Pans

Always allow a frying pan to cool down before cleaning. Clean your ceramic frying pan with warm soapy water and a soft sponge or dish cloth. To remove burnt food from a pan, soak the pan in hot water for 30 minutes before washing. This will make cleaning easier.
Thoroughly clean the pan inside and outside after every use to remove all residues and to prevent grease build-up and discoloration. For best results use a soft cloth, sponge or plastic scrub to wash the pan. Avoid using steel wool, nylon scrubbing pads or any abrasive cleaning products. Rinse well in warm water and dry cookware onlinepletely before storing.

      • Sara

Thanks! My fry pan has so much oil build up and burnt on sides 🙁

  17. ka.li

Yummy.. Definitely have to try this one.. Thank you!!!

    • Jughead

Cover liberally with salt and let sit for an hour or two….and then scrub it with a dry scrubber. The salt will absorb the grease and with a bit of dry scrubbing shoul onlinee off

  18. Hunterwoody

Saw this. Made it. It’s awesome

  19. kim

Yup. Gonna try it but with 2 cups chocolate chips!

  20. Amy

Off topic but does anyone have a apple cake recipe that’s baked in a cast iron skillet? My mom used to make it but lost the recipe and I haven’t found anything that matches what I remember. TIA

  21. Connie

Take it to the next level by adding a teaspoon or two of instant coffee. Serve with coffee ice cream. Deliciousness.

  22. Susan

Can I use flaxseed or applesauce instead of egg in this recipe? If so, how much?

    • Csandst1

Use flaxseed not applesauce. Should be ok. Might be a little crumbly.

  23. Erica

Get the mini lodge skillets and you can have individual desserts. We love out mini skillets.

  24. Suzy

Do you use light or dark brown sugar?

  25. Heather
