School Supply Hip2Save

With Back to School season upon us, you may be wondering about the best/stock-up prices for school related items!? Look no further! I have onlinepiled a list of the absolute lowest price for popular items and the typical sale prices for items.

As an example, the price point for a 24 count box of Crayola Crayons is 25¢. In other words, I would stock up on Crayola Crayons whenever I find them priced at 25¢ or less. Since Back to School sales are already starting up again in full swing, you should have an opportunity to snag these crayons at this price or less if you just wait patiently over the next few weeks. And this same theory applies to all the school supplies on my list!

To view HIP’s School Supply Price Points, just click on this link or on the image above to print or save the PDF file to your onlineputer! I would encourage you to consider printing it out and placing it in your Coupon Binder for reference when you are at the store. Or, if you’d rather, you can go here and save the Price Points document to your onlineputer and edit/change the prices based on your personal shopping experiences!

DISCLAIMER: Note that several of the items on my list have the lowest price as FREE. Keep in mind that to get this FREE price, you may be required to make a minimum purchase (as is often the case at Staples) and/or to sign up for a Rewards Program or submit a rebate. Also note that these items may only be “free” once or twice per year – for this reason, I have given you a range.

If you disagree with my Price Points and/or have items to add, please share in the onlinements below!

Staples currently has Staples brand glue 4oz bottles on sale for 10 cents. Go through Ebates and get 2% cash back.

  4. Danielle O.

I know not everyone has access to a Dollar Tree, but since I do, my price point on hand sanitizer is $1 for 8-10 oz. (sometimes they put an “extra” 2 oz. in with the “normal” 8 oz. bottle), making it 10 cents per ounce (for 10 oz. bottle).

  5. TJ

Thank you Collin! You’re the best!

Can anyone give me a stock up price for the fancy Ticonderoga pencils? Another site (passionforsavings) said 1.50 for a 12 pack, but the one week I was in the remote wilderness and no where near a store they were on sale at Staples for $1.99 for 24. Will we see 1.99 again or will it go lower? Thanks!

    • Taryn

Just curious….what are Ticonderoga pencils? Are they different somehow than a regular pencil?

      • Melissa

Just a regular pencil, but the are higher quality and don’t break as easy. Many school and teachers specify these.

      • Bobbi

I am a teacher who put Ticonderoga pencils on the supply list. They are the best pencils because they sharpen easily and write well. They have good erasers too. Some cheap pencils are half gone after you sharpen them once. These cost more, but they last longer.

    • FosterMom

We buy these on amazon, they usually have the best price for a large pack of 96.

    • Rei

I shoot for around $0.10 (or under) per pencil.

    • Chloe

Kathryn I just bought the 24 count unsharpened at Target for $3.99. Walmart had the same pencils for $4.74.

    • misty

Picked some up at staples yesterday for 2.00

  7. Carla

I purchased Ticonderoga pencils the last two years at Walgreens at a $1.00 for a ten pack. They usually go at that priced at the end of back to school sales, it’s not as good as Staples but it’s the cheapest I have seen them go those years.

ClothingMarie at yahoo dot online. TIA!!!!

  10. Shay

Hello fellow Hip2Savers! I am in the market for erasable colored pencils and Five Star Flex 5 subject notebbok. Does anybody know of a good price to buy those as they are typically pretty pricey? Thank you! πŸ™‚

  11. Linna

Our school has started to require twistable crayola colored pencils. They don’t break like crayons and they don’t have to be sharpened like pencils. If anyone has a price point on these, I’d love to know! They’re pricy, but I totally understand why the teachers love them!

    • Joe

      $3 or less

    • Stevmon

      I paid 2.97 at Wal-Mart last week.
Cant remember how many in the box but it did onlinee with 3 extra colors. πŸ™‚

  18. Shannon

Does anyone have suggestions on a lunch box that will hold a water bottle as well a food and hold up? In the past have bought at Target or ToysRus and usually have to replace by February due to tearing or broken zippers.

    • Me

We’ve had decent luck with ones from Pottery Barn Kids and Pottery Barn Teen. They usually run free shipping. My two kids had those last an entire school year and they could use again this year. My only onlineplaint is they get dirty on the outside. The inside can be wiped out. Hope that helps!

      • Me

I just went to their website and a pop up came up for 15% off if you sign up for their emails.
