Score some cute food points with these yummy chocolate-dipped “football” apple slices! It’s a festive, no-bake treat that’s sure to be a big hit! Keep in mind that melting chocolate evenly can be a little tricky… in fact, I tried this recipe first with chocolate chips, and it didn’t turn out photo ready for this post.
When I switched to chocolate candy melts, and melted them in a double boiler method on the stove along with a tiny bit of oil, it helped give the chocolate a thin consistency which is much easier for dipping. The package of melts states that you can microwave to melt as well.

Ingredients
- 3 large apples, sliced
- 1 bag Wilton brand candy melts in dark chocolate
- 2 cups pineapple juice
- white cake decorating icing
- 1/4 teaspoon or more of vegetable oil, or shortening if your chocolate beonlinees too thick or sticky
Directions
1
Soak apple slices in pineapple juice for about 10 minutes and dry onlinepletely. This is to avoid apples from turning brown.
2
Melt chocolate according to package (I followed the double boil stove method).
3
Fill a medium sized pot 1/4 of the way with water and use a glass bowl or Pyrex glass to set inside the pot to slowly melt the chocolate pieces. You don’t want to overheat the chocolate so turn off the heat once the water starts to boil. Stir frequently.
4
Dip the apple slices in the chocolate. I found it easier to use a long toothpick. If chocolate beonlinees too thick or sticky, try stirring in a touch of oil or shortening.
5
Place apple slices on parchment paper and let dry for about 15 minutes. Use white cake decorating frosting to pipe on the “football laces”.
Hip Tip: If chocolate beonlinees too thick or sticky, try stirring in a touch of oil or shortening.
My kids were thrilled with this idea and I hope your family loves it too!
