i live in california and i am new to couponing and i have a couple of questions: what are some ways of getting free coupon inserts? also, what happens to the sunday paper that doesnt sell in stores?and can i buy the sunday paper on monday for a cheaper price? id appreciate any helful tips , thanks!

    • Amye

Some people go dumpster diving to get inserts (this is not legal everywhere) you can also order them online at a discounted rate. Ask your neighbors if they will save yours. I stop at mcdonalds after my Sunday morning couponing and take the inserts from the papers people have left. I don’t take the whole insert but clip the ones I’ll use!

    • laurie

my daughter goes to the recycling trailer and gets several sometimes….

    • tina

the papers get picked up on monday mornings (usually early) so the stores get credit for them so they are still full price on monday if you find any left

    • Sarah

My suggestion is to keep your eyes and ears open. I have been couponing for about 3 years now. I live in a smaller town and I got permission from a retirement onlinemunity to go through their recycle bins. I have been doing that for about a year now, and the other night when I went to go through the bins I met a lady who was substituting at the front desk. She asked me what I was looking for in the recycle bins and when I told her that I was looking for coupon inserts she asked me if I wanted a bunch of extras. I told her “Sure!!” and she then told me that her son stocks all of the newspaper boxes in town and he always has a ton of extra papers. All they have to turn in to the newspaper onlinepany is a small section on the front of the paper and then they throw all the rest of the paper in the recycle bin!!! She told me that she hates seeing all of those coupons going to waste so she gives them to one lady already and she is going to start giving some to me as well!!! I feel so blessed that she came into my life to help not just me out, but also all of my friends that coupon because I sure don’t need 100 coupon inserts!!! 😉

      • leah

Wow youre lucky. If u get so many inserts from her and dont need them then would it be possible to mail me a few. Will send u the shipping costs

    • Tracey

I meet a lady that distributes the paper and on Mon. mornings I meet her at my local FL and I get about 20 inserts from her each week.

i am looking to subscribe to the savannah ga newspaper, but their site says “sundays only for a month are $11.27” This is more than i would pay just buying it at the gas station every week – problem with that is sometimes not all the coupons are in the papers. I am going to call this week in hopes the customer service gives me a better deal, but if they don’t it just seems too high to me. Anyone in this area find a better deal somehow? or is this the best it gets?

    • laurie

I am in michigan–my local Dollar Tree sells the Sunday paper for $1

    • Kathy

We’re in IL and can get the Sunday paper at Menard’s on Saturday afternoon for $1.

    • AnnaM.

It’s not only that there are more coupons when you subscribe, I sometimes get free samples in the bag with the delivered newspaper. They are not included with the papers you buy other places. Doesn’t happen often, I know, but it does happen.

    • Maria

I just left the Savannah area and had a subscription with the Savannah newspaper for weekends only included fri, sat and Sunday paper for $50 a year. I didnt think it was a bad deal, especially since you don’t have to worry about people stealing the insert from your paper and is delivered to your house 😀

    • Annette

I live in Michigan and my Walmart sells Sunday papers for .75… if you went to the store across the street, the same paper is $2.00

    • Michelle

hey ya’ll, thanks for the info. I really meant that I thought a subscription was supposed to be cheaper than retail.. the paper sells for $2 here on sundays.. why pay $11 a month to have it delivered, when i could get it for $8 a month at the gas station?? (meaning there are 4 sundays in a month, usually).. seems silly that the subscription is higher.. i was just wondering if others hometown papers are higher if they get the subscription instead of buying retail..

      • Ashley57

Yes, normally it is more expensive to have it delivered. Think doing carry out for a pizza vs. delivery. There is a delivery fee.

I get an extra insert in the Wednesday paper. Plus, a couple of stores I use (onlinemissary) have coupon baskets near the door where people drop off extra coupons for anyone to use, and often I find there are many extra inserts in there.

But, lately, I’m finding I use the printables with the deals listed here on the site more often than the newspaper coupons. The printables are often higher value or have you buy fewer to use it. Got about $30 in groceries today for $14 from Target using only printed coupons–from their site and the matches listed here–but I got them through Swagbucks so I’m earning points toward Amazon gift cards too. 🙂 A lot of the coupons.online coupons are also on Swagbucks and give you points if you print them through there.

Good luck! Don’t try to do too much at once or you can get burned out. I know I did.

    • Leslie

onlinepletely agree. I use about 95% internet printables to do my coupon shopping. The values are higher and the amount you have to purchase is lower. I get two papers every Sunday, but honestly I don’t use very many coupons out of them. Just enough to ‘break even’ sometimes.

  5. Kari

I know this is off subject but I wanted to thank you for the betrolli noodle coupon this week. I live in Florida and none of our stores double coupons. I went today to Winn Dixie and got over 260.00 dollars worth of groceries for 115.00. The noodles are on sale ten for ten and the coupon was for 1.00 off each box making them free. I also got forty cans of cat food for 10.00. They were 20 for 10.00 and you gave us a heads up for buy one get one free coupons. I’m slowly stockpiling for the summer and I help my mom and my step daughter who just move out of her moms and started her first real job last Saturday. She graduates in may with honors and I couldn’t ask for a better step daughter. Thank you so much for all your hard work to help us save and to be able to help others.

    • jackie

dont forget the sunkist and seven up sodas are BOGO @ WD, if you used the 1 dollar off 2 bottles q you get some really cheap sodas !

  6. Kari

Oh by the way my husband thinks I’m crazy with all this food but he doesn’t mind eating it lol

  7. Lisa

The inserts have been so disappointing lately I haven’t bought a paper since February. I rather get a bundle off ebay then buying a paper at full price with coupons I don’t want or need. Plus Ralph has stopped doubling coupons in SoCal so you barely onlinee out with any savings when you factor in the cost of the paper. Sorry for my rant ladies

    • Paula

Lisa I agree I’m here in SD and my Ralph’s stop doubling last month. I just shop at the onlinemissary oh and there is a blogger here in SD that clears all the shelves by Sunday at noon so I have slowly stopped after a years of couponing

  8. Emily

P&G has gotten so greedy…. .20 off tide??

    • Quia

That is crazy what about $0.25cents off Crest Rinse, Scope and $0.25cents off Crest!!

      • Allison

I totally agree! The P&G insert used to be my favorite. Not anymore!

    • Laura

I just said the same thing to my husband. I showed him 25 cents off charmin and bounty paper towels. Those products are SO expensive that 25 cents is almost a slap in the face.

      • Michelle

i agree Laura!.. even if my store has a sale AND doubles, it is usually cheaper to buy other brands than anything P&G offers.. I

  9. ashley

sadly i’ve also been really disappointed in the coupons lately, especially my FAV p&g 🙁 i loved getting my 8 papers the first sunday of the month and organizing my coupons, getting my GREAT deals and showing off to my hubby… lately they just haven’t been adding up to much savings… before i could get p&g products cheaper than store brand feels like since about december that’s changed. heres to a better next mth 🙂

    • Alicia Phoebe Oviatt

      c.v.s.

      • Leslie

Not everyone has a CVS. For those of us who don’t, the decrease in coupon value is a bigger concern.

      • cdawnt

how doea CVS make P&G coupons betfef? We have a CVS under construction and I can’t wait to start shopping there but Im not familiar w/their q system.

    • ashley h

i feel the same way! the coupons have been way lower in value and i the deals are just not there! i started couponing 2 yrs ago and not only was my kitchen well stocked, but i also had a small stockpile in my laundry room and was able to give extra items to my SIL. now, i don’t have anything extra to give away, my stockpile is rapidly diminishing, and my kitchen supply is just not what it used to be. i really wonder if it has anything to do with that extreme couponing show??

      • Michelle

I hear you Ashley.. When I started about a year ago, I was getting a few freebies each month from CVS using the great coupons like bogo along with their ecb’s, and even from walmart, kroger, and publix. But now it’s very rare I get anything free (even with coupons AND a sale) and I haven’t been excited about a cvs deal in months!

I have never been a super stockpiler, maybe a few free or super low priced items a week, but after a while, the small stockpile starts diminishing and I have to pay full price for things I was getting free a few months ago!

I thought the show’s influence would start dwindling down, but I think it’s getting worse (in my opinion).

I do a circuit of dumpster divingin my town on Fridays before the recycling dumpsters are emptied. I get anywhere from 2-30 inserts depending on who has been dumping what. Has made for some great adventures!

  11. redhairedchick

Here in PA the P&G, SmartSource, and PepsiCo all onlinee in the paper. The Red Plum and grocery ads onlinee as stacks of mail which, to my great fortune, are piled below the mailboxes in my apartment building. Folks who see it as junk mail aren’t bothered with it, and folks like me – who see it as a treasure trove- are able to get a goodly supply of coupons without having to rifle through garbage. 🙂

  12. Kimberly

Im in north mississippi amd only got the pg insert in my paper today. Are the other coupons regional?

  13. Viv

SE LOuisiana received all 4 Inserts if anyone was wondering

  14. Griscelda

Anyone here from west Covina, ca?? What are the best grocery stores to shop at using coupons? Vons, Stater Brothers, Albertons? I can’t remember what others are around.

  15. Tracy

I bought 2 papaers today because I wanted 2 of the $2 off Colgate power toothbrushes. One newspaper had extra inserts so I got 3 extra Redplums and 2 extra PepsiCos!!! Score!! Then I went to Riteaid and used the colgate coupons (along with a $1 Colgate toothpaste I already had) and made $3 off the buy $20 Colgate products get a $10 +UP!! (I already had $1 toward it from something earlier in the promotion) Plus I scored 4 single serving size oreao cookies free there too. It’s been a great day 🙂

  16. Diane S.

I live in Ohio and I received all four inserts and also a Target coupon insert. I wasn’t expecting that one. Its the first time I ever received one. Did anyone else receive this insert?

    • 4our2cents

Lucky you Diane. I am in Ohio too and hardly ever get those coveted Target inserts.

And to top it off listen this oddity. I was searching for the Colgate Qs in my SS. I did not find them. So I asked on our FB wall if anyone else got them. Yep. So apparently I got some sort of “regional” insert for SS- even though I am only a few miles away from those who got a full insert with those Colgate Qs. I guess no Free Colgate at CVS for me this week. ;(

  17. Amber Williamson

How do you get the coupon previews and get the ad information ahead of time? I am researching couponing for a school paper and have had no luck finding this information! Any help would be appreciated.
