February 4th is a very special day… it’s Thank a Mailman Day!

This is your chance to give a BIG thank you to your Mail Carrier who brings super sweet deals to your mailbox and doorstep six days a week! And with all of the freebies and samples we score every day… well, most of us keep our Mail Carriers super busy.

Here are some ideas on how to show your Mail Carrier you appreciate their service:

* Leave them a note in your mailbox with a gift card to a local restaurant or coffee shop. We post lots of yummy deals and freebies every day, why not surprise them with a treat? I know a warm caffeinated beverage gets me going every day!

* Speaking of freebies, why not put together a gift bag of some of your recent scores? Sample sized products from Bath & Body Works or a Yankee candle… even Krispy Kreme coupons. They all make inexpensive, but yet still thoughtful gifts to give.

* Warm up their cold days by giving them a pair of gloves or a package of hand or foot warmers. These are usually inexpensive and can be found at any sporting goods store or online… I’ve posted many glove deals previously as well.

* Have your kiddos draw a picture for your Mail Carrier or make them a card.

Thanks so much for posting this! We love our mail lady and she has to drive down a private driveway to get to my house(definitly out of her way) and she is always smiling when she onlinees! I think I will put together a pamper yourself gift bag. I have plenty of lotions, candles, shave cream:), razors, and so on in my stock pile. and have the kids make her a card! Thanks agian Collin!!!!!!

I always worry about them not seeing it or putting it in with the other mail. How do you make sure that they get it when you dont have a personal mail box?

My dad is a mailman (aka “letter carrier” in their professional world) and I guarantee they see it. Every piece of mail goes through their hands and they know the who, what, when, where and often the why of it (and of you!) just by reading the addresses. If it’s for them, they know it, and appreciate it more that you will know. FYI- cookies & chocolates are his favorite ; )

I appreciate our mailman, but he is such a grumpy bum! Whenever I smile or say thanks, he just ignores me and does not reply…..and I”ll admit I’ve once in a while thought he might be sneaking some of my freebies that I never receive and others here have……….BUT I’m going to thank him again! 🙂

As soon as I saw this post, my roommates and I made a cute Thank You card and attached candy to it and put it in our mailbox!!!! Hope he feels appreciated tomorrow 🙂

My mail person is always smiling and she regularly has to trudge up my driveway with a package. Rain or shine she always has a smile and a kind word. I’ll have to onlinee up with something for her tomorrow. Thanks for the heads-up Collin!

My dad’s a mailman, and I can tell you that (if he speaks for all mail carriers) they appreciate even the slightest thoughtful gift/card/note. He brings home gifts from his customers, usually they’re things they’ve baked for him (no kidding, he’s brought home pies, cakes, homemade candies and more!), but even if it’s just a ‘thank you’ note, he is always grateful to be appreciated. 🙂

Also, I’ll be putting together a little sample size gift set for our mail carrier. She is so sweet and I hope she loves it!

He’s not freaked out at all. I’m not sure if that’s good or bad! But he feels like he knows his customers (he’s been doing the same route for about 10 years), so they’re not really strangers. And he delivers in a small town, so it’s not quite the same as a big city with new people moving in and out frequently. 🙂

Thanks for the heads up!!! We love our mail lady, she always gives the kids a sucker or candy when she see them. We got over a foot of snow today and it is still going. So not only does this give my kiddos something to do, she really deserves it today and tomorrow!!

As a rural mail carrier, I can tell you it is very nice to be remembered. I feel like all 385 families on my route are a part of my family. I have done this for 22 years and I seen many of kiddos grow up and now are parents themselves. It is nice to know that sometimes they think of me too. Sometimes I bring good news and other times not, but I always try to do it with a smile!

I thought about doing this, but I have a different person on Saturdays. She’s nice and all but it’s my weekday mailman who deals with all my packages!! lol Maybe on Monday….

i think my mailman thinks himself all the time with my freebies bc there are too many times my mailbox is empty and that just cant be right….like today…nothing….maybe he should keep my freebies and pay those bills hehehehe…. mine is an old grumpy man who is quick to run over my trash can or better yet through it across my yard…. im just not sure if i have it in me to do something nice for him… am i wrong for thinking this way???

Remeber the golden rule and do unto others as you would have others do unto you. I hear several of you saying you think the mail person is stealing your samples but, remember that these samples go through many facilities and even more hands before arriving at your door. I too have wondered about many a sample that my mom and/or aunt have received and I not, but I know our mail lady is an angle to us and would never steal anything. However, I don’t think the same about some of the people in our local sorting facility. I am absolutely positive that the majority of them are honest hard working people, but I also believe there are a few out there with sticky fingers who figure if we are getting it free, that it makes it anyones “gift”.

i know i know LOL i try but hes just so mean…he probably doesnt take my girl stuff or any of it for that matter…he is just such a grouch. u know once someone does something ugly like hes done to us its so hard to get that taste outta my mouth…. i dont know ill think about it hahaha. thanks for reminding me 😉

My mailman is a family friend and his daughter is one of my good friends so he does anything we need. As a matter of fact he shipped a package for me last week (put it in a box and everything). I put money in my mailbox whenever I need a stamp and have not actually gone to the post office in 4 years!! It’s about time for me to bake him some more cookies.

I have the utmost respect for letter carriers nationwide.. through snowdrifts and hail they walk up stairs in apartments and drive down rural driveways each and every day. They serve more Americans than those that get running water.
Yet their inonlinee onlinees from a 45c stamp.. nobody can deliver any better than that.

We have an awesome mail carrier. We thank her often. 🙂 For Christmas we got her a personalized travel mug from Shutterfly with her name on it and a box of hot chocolate mix to go with it. We wrapped them up pretty and stuffed them in the mail box with her name on them. She was touched and thanked us profusely for thinking of her and taking the time to personalize something for her.

Thanks for the heads up! I quickly put together a small package! I gave a package of cough drops, coupon for a free Big Mac and Large Fries from McDonalds, and since I’m from northern Mn and it gets cold here, I gave him a sample of hand & body lotion and intense moisturizer. I work for L’BRI an Aloe Vera based skin care, so I hope he likes it! 🙂

I am a mail carrier, and I really enjoy delivering the samples knowing how excited I get when I recieve them at home. Every mail carrier, loves a thank you of any kind. What an awesome idea and a big thanks for the appreciation.

We (my 5 year old and I) made a personalized Christmas card for our mail man and I attached a coffee gift card 😀 His wife was very excited but he was shy and said thank you for the coffee but you didn;t have to do that.

My mail lady is a pretty grumpy old woman. She will leave our packages out at the road by the mailbox instead of bringing them up to the door. She is always leaving the “sorry we missed you notes’ while we are home. We left her a small gc and some cookies for Christmas and she never once said thank you. I know she got it, because I watched out the window to make sure she took it. Im not sure if I could bring it upon myself to leave her anything else.

I have not a clue who puts my mail in my “cluster box” at the end of my road/street. I do know it is different people in their own vehicle’s, only because I only see them on Saturday’s when I am home from work. I have to pick up ALL my packages at the Office, even UPS. So whom do I thank?

I know my mail carrier laid down the law to me when I mentioned getting her something for Christmas. I was told they weren’t allowed to accept certain types of gifts. I did find out they are allowed to accept food so I make her homemade cookies each year. I’d love to do more for her because she’s such a wonderful person and I appreciate all she does.

I love these stories about all the great mail carriers! we recently moved and we have a different mail carrier every day. And they deliver at a different time every day. I would love to be someone’s regular route!

I just saw this post! I just threw together a Blue Clues card with the Mail song on it and the characters for my daughter to color. Getting the mail is one of the things we look forward to everyday (and something she has been doing since she pretty much born). Gotta show the mail carriers love on THEIR day!

Thanks so much for letting me know about this. I surprised our mail carrier at the mailbox today with a gift card and some fresh salted caramel butter bars that I made this morning. He didn’t even know that it was “Thank a mailman” Day, but he was so appreciative. 🙂 Hopefully it brought him a little bit of happiness today. 🙂

My mom is a mail carrier. She loves cards made by kids, and things like lotions, etc. The chocolates/treats get tiring, could you imagine getting a bunch of that? Save your money and do something creative with the kids as a thank you and put something that can be ‘used up
like a candle, lotion, etc. but that is not going to make someone fat.

My husband is a mail carrier, and I also am a former mail carrier. I always appreciated any little gesture my customers would leave me. And I myself was taught by my father to send thankyou notes for any gift received. Needless to say all those who were on my route were very giving and they even liked the return thank you note. My husband says that most people today are rude even to the mail carrier, and when someone is actually polite it makes the mail carrier have a Wonderful day.
