    Thanks, Collin.
I’d like to give a quick opinion of Jamaica-we went for a week back in May of this yr. Although we were in a fabulous resort directly on the water(went cliff diving there)once you venture beyond your resorts doors, the stark reality of poverty hits you squarely in the face. The poor are EVERYWHERE-hands extended, and selling everything they can think of to earn a dollar or two. You travel by taxi, safely, by choosing one of a multitude that fly by you on the rd. DO NOT let your hotel folks pick out the taxi driver-they are in cahoots and it won’t be pretty when time onlinees to settle up. AGREE UPFRONT ,before you step in the cab what your rate will be. One day we just booked our driver for the entire day for sightseeing. There are gorgeous falls on the island as well as a blue hole you can jump down into-if you’re brave enough! People are very friendly, but as I said, their hands are always out 🙁
Bugs are a constant in Jamaica-little tiny ones -they’re on everything-even in the kitchens of your resort room. It is a part of life there-you get use to it.
Save big bucks! Wait to buy all your souvenirs at the open market-they have jsut about everything you’d enjoy taking back home.
The water is a heavenly blue, temps are wonderful with a lovely breeze. Many people sell food at open stands on the sides of the rd. Don’t be hesitant to try some island favs! it’s the way folks do it there 🙂

We stayed a week at Catch a Falling Star-currently rated #2 best hotel in J @ Trip Advisor.

Don’t you just hate it when the native poor people ruin your vacation? :/

We never used a taxi, we booked 3 tours that we thought were really reasonable. The week we spent there was the BEST week of my life and I’m dreaming of the day I can go back. The trade winds made the temperature prefect. You are right about them being so poor. We asked why they let their cows run loose and were told that the owners couldn’t afford to feed them and just turned them loose. They mainly eat goat meat. We walked down the beach and out of the resort and talked to the locals. That was one of the best parts of the trip. Dunns River Falls is a MUST DO.

Gil – I don’t usually post (especially about non-coupon issues), but I felt like there was a “hint” of something in your post. I would hope as an adult you would have learned by now that the beautiful pictures we see in magazines don’t represent the entire city/town/island or country. I don’t where you live, but I live in New York City and don’t have to walk very far to see people with their hands out. There are poor, people in need EVERYWHERE.

I don’t know whether the Caribbean magazine would motivate me or depress me. I’ve got at lest 5 years until I’ll have my damn credit cards paid off. 🙁

Since I have registerd to this site this will be my 4’th free subcription. My husband and I have been to Paradise Island in the Bahamas. True if you go to the Nassua side you have to be careful. While we were there we took a day trip by fast ferry to Harbour Island, which was featured on the cover of Town and Country magazine about five years ago and was named the most beautiful island in the world by the travel channel. We want to return someday for a longer stay.
